North Norway
NORTH NORWAY - Well, I had this half written and there was a big "bang" and bump on the line which made me lose everything I had written. Makes me very cross as I do not like to chew my cabbage twice.
There was not much about bedbugs in the paper this week. Just a short notice that the U.N. was infested. No comment.
Plenty of political statements. I would vote for anyone who would declare a moratorium on politics for a year or even longer. My ears and my brain are tired.
Our book appreciation group met at the Cafe Nomad to discuss the October selection, "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie” by Alan Bradley. The book for November is "The Women Who Raised Me,” a memoir by Victoria Rowell. The November meeting is early due to Thanksgiving, November 17 being the date.
Dell and I both had dental cleanings. Dell needs a little repair to the infrastructure. We don't get cavities, we just deteriorate with use, like our roads and bridges.
Yesterday we went to Portland where I consulted Dr.Holt. He advised me that I could wait awhile on my cataracts and I surely will. Just use a bright light to read by. I am really chicken when it comes to my eyes and it's a fight to get drops in them.
Last weekend Tricia and Katri came for a short visit with Mary and Frank Perham. Tricia brought fresh picked raspberries, which we all enjoyed. A real treat. They were dark red, large with fewer seeds than the usual kind.
Tricia had hinted that she would like lasagna for supper so Paula made one and together with salad and garlic bread and a decadent chocolate cake for dessert they had a feast. There were Paul and Zach Perham, Brenda Collins, Tricia Perham, Katri Mazula, Dana Morgan, Paula Perham, Jane Perham, Frank and Mary Perham at this gathering, having a nice visit.
Sunday a group went to Crosstone's for breakfast. Paula, Dana, Paul, Zach, Tricia, Katri and Bernie, Russell's father and Russell joined Mary and Frank there. Sunday afternoon the group at Pat and Charlie Verrill's included Frank and Mary, Paula and Dana, Tricia, Katri, Paul and Brenda, Zach, Betty and Dell, Judi, Kara, Baby Dan "Six," Abby and Aaron and of course Pat and Charlie. Abby was the friend who went to Hawaii to help with the baby after Kara had a C-section and couldn't lift. She is studying Gerontology and several of us told her we were soon to need her services.
Deven took the day off yesterday to spend it with Kara and Six as they are returning to Hawaii on election day. Six is happy as long as he can see what is going on. When I was holding him he refused to lie back but insisted on sitting up straight and looking all around. He is interested in Pat's houseplants, the fan on the ceiling and all the people. A very happy child. They are taking him to see the hob-goblins on Main Street, Norway today. Something he will no doubt remember for life. Four months old and he has traveled more than I had at 21.
Must end this before the power company gets here and turns the power off to make repairs.
Remember, you do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
