West Sumner

WEST SUMNER — Good morning. The sun is actually shining. Kendall came and got me Sunday morning for church as he didn't want me driving through the flood on the meadow.

Then we had to go towards East Sumner to look at that flood. Kendall thought it was more than a foot deep. Then after church we had to go and check it out again.

There are lots of things going on in town right now. I talked to Sheri Fowler who is back from her winter home. She has bought the Waterman home to restore it somewhat. She says this house is like a bad tooth, but not bad enough to be pulled.

The foundation needs to be fixed. This 200-year-old barn has a 40-foot beam that is in good condition. The place was built in 1890. It was owned by Doctor Andrews and it was called Duffy's Tavern. Sheri plans to do some landscaping to keep it looking interesting. She calls it "historic restoration."

The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be hosting a garage and plant sale at the fire station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Refreshments will be available. A door prize will also be given. Those wanting to contribute, contact Wilda Dunham at 388-2981. Deliver to Wilda's on Friday evening.

Chris Wiken had an accident with a chain saw. He had to go to the ER for stitches in his leg. It could have been worse.

Larry Stup was in the hospital with an illness last week. They can't come to Maine now until the end of the month.

Faye Storer has been here for a week visiting her son and his wife, Dennis and Pat Bailey.

Dick Wiken and my grandson Brian Hadley have been laying a new floor on the porch at Elinor Bean's.

Now I must go to town and deliver my news. I stop by Cooper's spring on the Paris Hill Road and fill my water jugs. It is just the best water anywhere.
