WEST SUMNER — Nancy Irene Thurlow went to be with her Lord and Saviour on May 7. She breathed her last breath at 3:45 a.m. with the most peaceful look on her face. Services were held Wednesday at the West Sumner Baptist Church, where she was a member. Doctor Ron Williams from the Hephzibah House in Indiana was the speaker.
Leah and Marsha Hadley, who are missionaries at Hephzibah House, were able to ride here with the speaker. Kimberly Wiken and Leah played the piano during the service. Leah plays like Grammie Dora. The young adult men, the four Hadley children and the two girls sang a special number. The congregation sang "Be Thou Exalted" and "Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace" and closed with Nancy's favorite song, "Keep on Believing."
When you lose a loved one, Heaven gets closer and Heaven was very close that day. There were over a hundred people there. Most went downstairs for a time of refreshments and fellowship. It was a very special and heartfelt service.
I hope all you mothers had a good Mother's Day. Brenda, Karen and I went to the Lost Gull on Route 26 in Oxford on Saturday. We had a lobster roll and sat outside to eat. The weather was a picture-perfect day. Then we went to Jack's and Young's Greenhouses. There were so many plants to pick from that it was hard to choose. I got one hanging plant from Karen.
On Sunday, I had dinner at Kendall and Ruth's with Todd and Brian doing all the cooking. We had a great meal with gourmet potatoes that were purple and brown. I never, in all my 75 years, had seen a gourmet potato before. They looked like chocolate. We had baked chicken breasts and a tossed salad and ate it all at 2 p.m. after the first course of fresh fruit. Then we got in a game of Scrabble and I beat!
I went home to visit with Brent and Carol and they bought me a new mailbox with the post. On Thursday night, he set it up for me, and I am sure that the postal service is going to appreciate that it. So that was my Mother's Day.
The wind ordinance was voted in by the town members on May 16.
