Mechanic Falls
MECHANIC FALLS — Elm Street School is hosting the second Annual Chili and Chowder Cook-Off Saturday, February 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person to attend; children six and under get in free. Tickets may be purchased at the door. There is no fee to enter the contest.
The Cook-Off is being sponsored by the Bog Hoot Snowmobile Club. The winners of the Cook-Off will each receive a plaque and will be recognized for their efforts in the local paper. There will be a raffle as well, most likely a 50-50. For more information you may contact Sue Goulet at this website: flrgoulet@netzero.net or Pete Ford at 576-7778. Judging will done by the public.
Also, The Mechanic Falls Historical Society is hosting its “Almost Famous" Roast Beef supper on February 5 as well, in Congregational Hall, located at 64 Elm Street. The cost is $7 per adult and $5 for children under twelve.
Now, my readers know I’ve mentioned several times that Mechanic Falls has a propensity for food and these two events, happening back-to-back mind you, prove my point. For a modest dollar amount you can start at the beginning of Elm Street with the Roast Beef Supper and work your way up, barely a half a mile, to Elm Street School and finish the night with chowdah ( proper New England dialect, please) and chili. All in one night.
If anything, it will cure the winter doldrums that threaten some people who do not ski, snowmobile or have any idea how to stand on a snowboard, never mind careen down a mountain on one.
Any more events out there, e-mail me at mitsou7@msn.com and let me know within two weeks of the date. Otherwise more ramblings will follow.
