Lovell news

LOVELL — Hello, friends. I hope you had a fairly good week as did I. Of course, the snowstorm on Wednesday canceled all the schools. It was pretty to look out the window at it and helped the men who plow and shovel for their income in the winter season.

I spoke to Cathy Stone during the storm at the historical society building. Cathy is the president, and the Society meets every third Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Society building on Route 5, right by Lake Kezar County Club. Anyone can join. You can become active or inactive. Just give Cathy a call at the Society at 925-2291. You can also go on the internet at www.lovellhistoricalsociety.org. The Society is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to noon. Go see all they have and work on genealogy and join.

The New Suncook School PTA’s next meeting is scheduled for February 2, at the school in Lovell. Parents and grandparents are needed to help out with activities. Join them and help your children and their friends. Word has it that there will be a father/daughter dinner in February, and a winter carnival in March. More later as the information comes in.

Remember to save all your box tops for education for the school. Send them in by a student or mail them to: New Suncook School PTA, Main St., Lovell, ME 04051, Attn. Linda Dunlea.

Calling all boys ages 12 to 18 to come and join the Boy Scouts in Lovell. Meetings are every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lovell U.C.C.

The scoutmaster is Bob Elliott and you can call him at 925-1272. You won’t be sorry and you’ll be doing yourself good. The Scouts will be tubing in February, and they have fun while earning badges and helping others in the community.

Don’t forget to buy Girl Scout cookies this month — yum, yum. It is for a good cause. Also don’t forget the year-round bottle drive for the Girl Scouts. Drop them off at the container at the Lovell U.C.C. in Center Lovell or at Woitko’s Redemption Center on McNeil Road in North Fryeburg. It is for Troop 58’s yearly activities.

The Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Post 6783 Ladies Auxiliary meets every third Thursday, at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Jean Blake is the president. If you have or have had a husband, father, son, grandfather in any branch of the U.S. military and would like to join this wonderful organization, call Jean at 697-2050 and leave her a message if she is not home. We need new members to keep this organization going.

The VFW Post 6783 men meet every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall at 7 p.m. They too need new members. Any man interested in joining can call any member. One is Charles Benge of Lovell. Requirements are that you must have been in the war zone for six months to a year and have your DD214s to prove you were. Right now our vets are rebuilding the kitchen and making it bigger and better. They lend their hall to Mike Medoncca for the exercise classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They hold Bingo in the warm months also.

The Lovell United Church of Christ has a new pastor and her name is Alison Andrea Jacobs. She holds hours in her office at the church Friday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. and Mondays and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to noon. Church is at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday, and Sunday School is at 9 a.m. A nursery is provided. The choir meets Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. at the church. Call Director Elsa Newhouse at 928-3100 for further information. More voices are welcome. We have a bell choir and for more information on this, please call Ruth Mitchell at 928-2888. Bible fellowship is every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Ruth Mitchell also.

Let’s not forget the Lovell U.C.C. Thrift Shop is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon. They have a lot of very nice things with more coming in all the time. The shop is very much in need of people to help out an hour or two anytime you can. Call Barbara Tripp at 925-1276 or Peg Mason at 935-7528 for more information.

It was a quiet week here at our house. Russell did lay a new bathroom floor for us on January 10. I got my hair cut on January 14.

Frank and Val Gendron have been having lots of company. This weekend on January 14 to 16, they had their son and family and a daughter and her family plus Sherry, Peter and her three girls.

Callers at Rebecca Ring’s were George and Linda Drew and her son Sam Ring.

If you have any news, please call me at 925-1800. I’d really appreciate it. Perhaps you’ve seen something or have had company or an activity you’d like to share — birthdays, anniversaries, anything at all. Thanks.

God bless and have a great week.
