West Paris Westies Earn Top Seed


WEST PARIS – The Westies of West Paris will begin the Pine Tree league playoffs Sunday August 29 at Perham Field in West Paris. The Westies will be going for their 4th title in 6 years. With a 13-2 record they will enter the playoffs as the number 1 seed and will play the winner of a preliminary game between Bethel and Auburn.
     Leading the hitting attack this year for the Westies has been Kyle Kennison, Eric Cavers, Mike McBride, Mark Hreben, Brian Cox and Jared Verrill. The pitching rotation of Mike Godin, Cox, Hreben, Mike Mowatt and Joe Baker have held opponents to the fewest runs in the PTL. On base threats and defense leaders are Jeff Austin, Tyler Bryant, Tony Smith and Jerry Verrill.
     Coached by Dick Decato the West Paris contingent have had big wins over #2 Winthrop (18 to 0) and #5 seed Green Wave from Waterville (16 to 1) giving the Westies home field advantage throughout the tournament.
