Derby girls 'dice' up the Oxford Hills

SOUTH PARIS - Rita Dice of Maine Roller Derby (MRD) spoke to the Oxford Hills Rotary recently. She gave a brief history of the Maine League, which was founded in 2006, and talked about some of the rules and the lifestyle that is Roller Derby.

The Maine league started with just a few girls in Portland and now has 40 skaters in the league with two teams. Modern Roller Derby is a legitimate full contact team sport with leagues and teams worldwide.

You can meet some of the girls of MRD when they skate in the Oxford Hills holiday parade on November 27. The girls will be signing autographs and finding out who has been naughty and nice at the Norway fire station after the parade, along with Santa.

You can find out more about Maine Roller Derby by visiting their website, http://www.mainerollerderby.com/. For information on Roller Derby nationwide, visit The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) at http://wftda.com/.
