New brochure touts Maine's 14,000 miles of snowmobiling trails

AUGUSTA — Maine's status as having the most snowmobiling trails in the East is being promoted by a new brochure from the state Office of Tourism, in collaboration with the Maine Snowmobile Association.

The brochure touts Maine's 14,500 miles of marked and groomed trails - double the mileage of any other New England state, the variety of lodging choices for snowmobilers, and the affordability of nonresident sled registrations compared to other states in the northeast.

An image of the 3,500-mile Interconnected Trail System, which is part of Maine's 14,500 miles of trails, shows routes crossing the state from York County to Aroostook County. Snowmobilers are directed to http://www.visitmaine.com to find getaway packages, and the dates of major snowmobile festivals are listed.

The brochure has been sent to more than 26,000 snowmobiling enthusiasts and riders who have purchased nonresident registrations, or have sent snowmobiling Web inquiries to the Office of Tourism in the past two years. January has provided Maine with plenty of snow thus far, with many local snowmobile clubs opening groomed trails.
