Hebron Academy to host snowshoe race
HEBRON — Hebron Academy will host the "Hebron Hills Snowshoe Classic" charity race on Sunday, January 30, to benefit the Friends of the Little Field Home orphanage in Malawi, Africa.
On-line registration opened January 15, and is available at www.acidoticracing.com/HebronHills.html. Entry fees are $15 pre-registration, $20day of the race. Registration begins on race day from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Hebron Academy Athletic Center at 339 Paris Road, Rte. 119 in Hebron. The race will begin at 11 a.m., and awards will be presented to age-group winners and in categories of Federation Cup competition.
Established in 2004 by Hebron Academy teacher Janet Littlefield, the Friends of the Little Field Home mission is to create a long-term, loving, supportive and healthy environment for the over 100 orphans of the Ntchisi area, and to work with the community in self-sustaining programs of education, health care and commerce.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the organization's "Brick Campaign" to raise funds for the first construction phase of a seven-building orphanage campus, according to the event's coordinator, Austin Stonebraker, a teacher at the academy.
"My hope is to spread the word about the orphanage and to garner more interest about the amazing work of the Friends of the Little Field Home," said Stonebraker. "We hope a lot of folks will come to the race to experience snowshoe racing, and have a great time outside on the Hebron Academy campus while supporting a great cause."
According to race sponsor acidoticRacing, "The school has a simple 5.5K (3.3-mile) loop of very smooth but hilly cross country trail (running and nordic skiing) that has been improved this fall to include narrow rolling single track within the loop through beautiful mixed hardwood forest. The course should be challenging but fun, and very beautiful at the same time."
