Adult Ed courses for outdoor enthusiasts
MECHANIC FALLS — Mechanic Falls/Minot/Poland Adult Education’s winter/spring program has several course offerings for outdoor enthusiasts. Call the adult education office at 345-3217, e-mail adulted@midmaine.com, or visit http://mechanicfalls.maineadulted.org for more information.
Fly Tying. Need ideas for keeping busy while waiting for warmer weather? Learn to tie various flies, which can be used to fish for trout, land-locked salmon, and other game fish of the northeast. Supply list provided upon registration. Five weeks beginning Wednesday, March 2 (6-8 p.m.). Fee $40.
Hunter Safety. The State of Maine is offering the opportunity to prepare for a certificate in Hunter and Gun Safety. State law requires this course if you are applying for a first time license, and it is a good idea for all hunters to attend this class. You will learn about laws, safety, map and compass, landowner relations and more. You must attend both days in their entirety and pass a test. Children must be at least 10 years of age. Those 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult throughout the course. Tuesday, March 1 (6-9 p.m.) and Saturday, March 12 (8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). Fee $5. Due to high demand, this course will also be offered March 15 and 26.
ATV Education. Learn how to properly operate and maintain an ATV. Laws and responsibilities, map and compass, environmental/landowner ethics, personal safety, first aid and survival skills will be covered. Exam and 100 percent attendance required. Children must be at least 10 years old, and if 15 or under, must be accompanied by an adult throughout the course. Saturday, April 9 (8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). Fee $5.
Boating Education. Learn how to properly operate and maintain a boat. This course is state approved. Successful completion will result in a certificate. It serves as proof of compliance if you are stopped by New Hampshire law enforcement when boating on boundary waters. Exam and 100 percent attendance required. Saturday, May 7 (8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). Fee $5.

Box 129, Mechanic Falls, ME 04256 or stop by the office at 108 Lewiston Street (third floor), Mechanic Falls. Please note that credit card payments are not accepted.
