Norway Triathlon registration up and running

NORWAY — Mark White, race director for the Norway Triathlon, confirms that registration for the 2012 Triathlon was up and running at active.com on February 1, and that athletes registered on-line the first day.

Anyone interested in registering as a team or individual should get their registration in as soon as possible. You may register on-line, or download and mail in registration form from www.norwaytri.com, or contact the trust at 739-2124 for a hard copy.

The 2012 Norway Triathlon will be run on Saturday, July 14, the morning of the Norway Arts Festival. Triathletes and their support teams are encouraged to stay in town for the balance of the day to fully enjoy Norway and the annual Festival.

As in previous years, proceeds from the tri will be donated to the Western Foothills Land Trust’s trail fund for Roberts Farm Preserve; this year funds raised will be dedicated towards adding a deck and accessible ramp to the warming hut.

The Norway Tri is a USAT-sanctioned sprint triathlon which includes three legs completed either by individuals or by a team of three: a 1k lake swim, 18k bike ride, and a 5k run to the finish line.

Whether cheering on first-time triathletes or watching seasoned competitors, the Tri is worth attending, or volunteering for. Volunteers make a commitment to attend a short organizational meeting on Friday night, and the Saturday morning event. In return, they receive a tri t-shirt, lunch, and the inspiration of being amongst so many athletes.

Sanctioned events are expensive to run, and sponsorships are needed to make the event a successful fund-raiser. Any business interested in great advertising and sponsorship should contact Lee Dassler at wflt@megalink.net.
