Maine Hoops announces tryouts

WATERVILLE — Maine Hoops Basketball Club announces tryouts for its AAU teams. Maine Hoops is Maine’s largest basketball club and will be having tryout and teams in both Southern and Central Maine this year. All players attending tryouts will be placed on a team.

Central Maine information — Maine Hoops will have complete access to the totally renovated Gilman Street School gymnasium in Waterville. Tryouts will be held at Colby College in Waterville on February 12, for girls and February 13, for boys.

The schedule is as follows:

10-11:30 a.m., third, fourth and fifth graders; 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., sixth and seventh graders; 1-2:30 p.m., eighth and ninth graders and 2:30-4 p.m., 10th, 11th and 12th graders

Southern Maine information — Southern Maine teams operate out of the Southern Maine Sportszone in Saco.

The schedule is as follows:

January 29 and February 5, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for third and fourth grade girls and boys; 3:30 to 5 p.m. for fifth grade girls and boys and 5:30 to 7 p.m. for sixth grade girls and boys

January 30 and February 5, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. for seventh grade girls and boys; 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for eighth grade girls and boys and 12:30 to 2 p.m. for ninth grade girls and boys

February 6 and 13, 8:30 to 10 a.m. for 10th grade girls and boys; 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for 11th grade girls and boys and 12:30 to 2 p.m. for 12th grade girls and boys.

Players do not need to attend both dates.

Any athlete wishing to play but not able to find a team can also contact Maine Hoops or register their name through the clearinghouse at the Maine Hoops page on www.smsportszone.com. This area will list players looking for teams and coaches looking for players. Leagues and tournaments will begin in February and run through the rest of the spring.

AAU Basketball and Maine Hoops are nonprofit youth organizations.
