Franklin Grange 124 met on Saturday, for a regular meeting and potluck dinner. Several plans were discussed for repairs that need to be done to the hall. The next meeting is March 19, at 10 a.m. with a potluck dinner.

  • Mechanic Falls

MECHANIC FALLS — I'm looking at my clock and it reads 5:30 p.m., but it's actually 6:30 p.m. even though technically I don't have to "spring forward" until 2 a.m. Does anyone really wait until then? Probably one of those by-the-book-stickler-for-detail types who does everything according to the rules, of which I am not one. I hate Daylight Savings Time.

  • South Woodstock

SOUTH WOODSTOCK — Our condolences are going out to the family and loved ones of Jim Hooker, Lily Paradis and Martha Flint. Love and prayers to each family member.

Girl Scout cookies are in; please make arrangements to pick your order up. As usual they are very delicious.

Many are sick with this awful flu/cold bug that's going around. Get well wishes to those of you who are still down with it. I was down for 14 days with it and believe me it is nothing I want again.

  • Lovell

LOVELL — Two fires in town in one week. A home on Smarts Hill that the Roccos were renting was lost on Monday, February 28, and on March 3, a house had tremendous water and smoke damage and a barn lost at 118 Main Street, the former Jerry Urghart place. A father, mother and two children were left homeless. The cause is under investigation as of March 4.

  • Norway Town Hall

NORWAY — A reminder: a person who owns a shack or temporary structure used for ice fishing may not leave or allow the shack or structure to remain on the ice of any inland waters after April 1.

The Norway Fireman’s Relief Association will host a Ham Supper on Saturday, March 19 from 5-6 p.m. at the Norway Fire Station.

The Norway Town Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; telephone 743-6651, fax 743-5307 and web address www.norwaymaine.com.

  • North Norway

NORTH NORWAY — Hard to leave the TV this morning with all the news about the earthquake in Japan. Such devastation. Kara, Dan and baby Six had to evacuate from their housing by the beach in Hawaii and we have word that they are safe with friends now. No matter how long the winter seems here, Maine is still a prettty good place to be.

  • Norway Town Hall

NORWAY — The Norway Recreation Department and Norway Youth Baseball are teaming up to offer registration times for baseball, softball and Tee-ball. Join in at the Norway Town Office on Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to noon or Wednesday, March 16 from 5-6:30 p.m. All parents are asked to attend one of these times to obtain important information for their child’s athletic activity.

  • Bryant Pond

BRYANT POND — Sunday services at the Baptist Church are Sunday School at 9:15 a.m., Morning Worship at 10:30 a.m. and Evening Service at 6 p.m. The men's prayer breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. in the fellowship hall on March 12. Pastor Calvin Fuller is pastor at the present time.

The Whitman Memorial Library program will be held today, March 10, at 2 p.m. Randy and Brenda Malm will present their wood turning and creative pet bed business. There is no charge and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

  • Mechanic Falls

Dyed in the wool Mainers are complaining. They’re complaining about the height of the snow banks. They’re muttering about frigid temperatures, plus, they’ve had it up to here with the potholes.

  • Mechanic Falls

MECHANIC FALLS — Dyed in the wool Mainers are complaining. They're complaining about the height of the snow banks. They're muttering about frigid temperatures, plus, they've had it up to here with the potholes. Therefore, if a true Mainer is complaining about the weather conditions, then it's official: It's been one rough winter. I wouldn't know. I've only lived here almost half my life which makes me as close to being native as a kumquat. To make matters worse, I hail from that flat place a little over 100 miles south of here where all the bad drivers come from.
