Towns

  • Mechanic Falls

I was in a post office the other day (not the one in Mechanic Falls), doing some business for my boss. I was unable to get to the company mailbox due to the fact that a woman was standing in front of me retrieving what looked like two months worth of mail from her narrow rectangle.

  • West Paris

WEST PARIS — We are proud to give congratulations to the West Paris Bobcat Majorettes, both juniorettes and majorettes. They won first place their first year and also the Grange’s first place honors. They have again reached first place. They performed Monday, April 18, at Franklin Grange 124’s Community Service open house and again received a Grange certificate for excellence signed by Master Richard G. Felt and Lecturer Bertha DeHaas. Lisa Floster and Ann have put in many hours with the girls and they are great.

  • Norway Town Hall

NORWAY — It is the time of year people will be asking for burn permits. The Maine Forest Service announces the class for the day, depending on wind conditions, etc…, by 9 a.m. So please wait until after 9 a.m. to come to the town office to obtain a burning permit. You could also call ahead to see if the State will allow a permit for that day.

  • North Norway

NORTH NORWAY — Well, I had to attend the wedding this morning and then go get groceries and do other errands so I am right up against my deadline here. So what follows is right off the top of my head and may not make much sense. Too much wedding champagne you know.

  • Lovell news

LOVELL — I hope you all had a happy Easter and got to go to church or a sunrise service. Perhaps you had a wonderful dinner with family and friends.

School vacation has ended so watch out for the children and slow down at crosswalks and beware of the buses as well as the children. Children are God’s precious gifts to all.

The last day of Sunday School at the Lovell United Church of Christ is May 8, until September.

  • Bryant Pond

BRYANT POND — Sunday services at the Baptist Church are Sunday School at 9:15 a.m., Morning Worship at 10:30 a.m. and Evening Service at 6 p.m. Prayer meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Woodstock-Greenwood Senior Citizens will meet today, May 5, at the Locke Mills Church. The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by dinner by the Ladies Circle and a program by Randall Probert, an author and former game warden. New members are always welcome.

  • South Woodstock

SOUTH WOODSTOCK — This was a great day (April 29), the temperature was up in the high '60s and sunny with a very pretty blue sky with those beautiful puffy white clouds. We also got a couple of showers, but the rain was warm and it sure helped open the leaves up on the trees and the grass truly came to life when the sun finally came out again. And the peepers truly love the rain and they are truly singing up a song tonight.

Condolences are going out to the families of June E. Wing and Phil Skinner. Love and prayers to each family member on the loss of their loved one.

  • Mechanic Falls

MECHANIC FALLS — When you read this, the “Royal Wedding of the Century” will have taken place and been viewed by billions of people across the globe, which pretty much places anyone else of royal descent that decides to get married in the next 89 years at the bottom of the wanna-be pile. Royal Wedding of the Decade? Um. Boring.

  • Mechanic Falls

MECHANIC FALLS — I occasionally shop at a well-known box store a few miles from here. I won’t mention the name because it may cause some of you to develop a slight tic in your left eye while simultaneously ranting about products made in China and the injustice of minimum wage. Others of you love this store so much you frequent it at all hours of the day or night in your pajamas.

  • Norway Town Hall

NORWAY — It is the time of year people will be asking for burn permits. The Maine Forest Service announces the class for the day, depending on wind conditions, etc., by 9 a.m. So please wait until after 9 a.m. to come to the town office to obtain a burning permit. You could also call ahead to see if the State will allow a permit for that day.

    Taxes are due May 19.
