Democrats plan supper
Oct 25, 2012 12:00 amNORWAY — Mike Tipping will headline the Oxford County Democrats supper on Friday, October 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church in Norway.
Tipping writes about Maine politics and policy with a focus on analysis and explanation. He works at the Maine People's Alliance and Maine People's Resource Center, writes a political column for the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel and is @miketipping on Twitter.
Cans for Cubs collection begins
Oct 25, 2012 12:00 amAREA — The Cub Scouts of Paris, Norway and Hebron are accepting donations of cannned goods and unopened hygiene products for the local food bank.
Pack 130 will have donation boxes at the following locations: Don's Redemption Center, Norway Town Office, Guy E. Rowe School, Paris Elementary School, Oxford Hills Middle School and Hebron Station School.
Store history detailed
Oct 18, 2012 12:00 amHEBRON — Muriel Cummings Randal of Falmouth Foreside recently briefed the Hebron Historical Society on her family ties to Hebron and the present day “The Storekeepers” business.
With roots in the Marshal and Cummings family ancestries in Hebron she detailed with photos their homesteads and family relationships. In 1923 her parents bought the Hebron General Store from the East Hebron Farmers Union. Though the exact date of the store’s origin is unknown, records show that it was sold by Alonzo Wood in 1880 to Fred Packard.
Reprise of Clock Talk tonight
Oct 18, 2012 12:00 amPARIS — By popular demand, Don Adamson will reprise his "Clock Talk" about the 1883 clock and the 1821 Revere Bell in the 1838 First Baptist Church "on the hill." First given in August, the event was a resounding success and word quickly spread in the surrounding community.
The Paris Cape Historical Society of South Paris is hosting this second evening of history and entertainment on Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
County Democrats finish campaign
Oct 18, 2012 12:00 amNORWAY — The Oxford County Democrats will wind up the campaign season with two suppers on Friday, October 26 in Norway and Thursday, November 1 in Rumford.
The Norway supper will be held at the Second Congregational Church at 5:30 p.m. and will feature a menu of ham, mac and cheese, salads and dessert prepared by the church volunteers.

WATERFORD — The Waterford Library sponsors an informal bridge group that meets upstairs at the library the fourth Monday of each month. The next meeting is on October 22 at 6:30 p.m.
No partner is necessary. Players with a basic knowledge of bridge are welcome. The goal is to have fun and learn from each other.
The group will not meet on the fourth Monday in December (24th); meetings will resume in January. For more information call 583-2729.
Hebron Historical announces hours
Oct 18, 2012 12:00 amHEBRON — Hebron Historical Society recently held a Grand Opening open house at its new home at 358 Paris Road. The facility will now be open to the public on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment.
A team of members has organized the society’s archives and welcomes citizens wishing to tour the facility or to research history and genealogy of the Hebron area and its earlier citizens and families. For further information call 966-2177.
Otisfield Historical plans program
Oct 18, 2012 12:00 amOTISFIELD — Otisfield’s lakes and scenic roadways prompt some to call it a good place to live and visit. The Otisfield Historical Society plans to highlight another important feature of the town – its many fine old houses, some located along main roads, others hidden away and seldom spotted by those just driving through.
About 40 of these old houses, all built before 1840, will be the subject of a power point presentation at the Society’s next meeting on Thursday, October 25. The meeting will be held at the Community Hall at 7 p.m.
History of clock and bell planned
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amPARIS — On October 18, the Paris Cape Historical Society members and friends will hold their monthly meeting at the First Baptist Church on Paris Hill at 7 p.m.
There will be no business meeting or refreshments. Instead, Donald Adamson, the keeper of the clock and Revere bell will present a video and narration of the history, maintenance and operation of the clock and bell.
The video was made by Sidney Gordon, an expert in the field of photography and old pictures. This is a program not to be missed.
Tractor club holding meet
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amWATERFORD — The Maine Antique Tractor Club will be holding a meet at the Waterford World's Fairgrounds located at 36 Irving Green Road, (across from Melby's Market on Route 35 in North Waterford) on Saturday, October 13.
The event will start at 10 a.m. with several different classes; all are done by weight.
