Holiday offerings at Bethel Historical
Nov 29, 2012 12:00 amBETHEL — With the holiday season here, the Bethel Historical Society is once again offering – for a limited time – a 20 percent discount on all regularly priced items in its Museum Shop.
Starting on November 23 and continuing through the entire month of December, prices will be slashed on items inspired by the Society's museum and research library collections, as well as books, gifts, and special publications associated with past and current exhibits at the Society's Regional History Center.
Waterford Fair supper slated
Nov 29, 2012 12:00 amNO WATERFORD — The Waterford World's Fair Association will be serving their first supper of the winter on Saturday, December 1 at the North Waterford Congregational Church, 15 Green Road (note change of location) across from Melby's Market on Route 35 in North Waterford.
The menu is Dana's famous baked stuffed haddock with all the fixings, mashed potato, coleslaw, veggie, bread, drink, and of course a piece of homemade pie for dessert. The charge is $8 for adults and $4 for children and they will start serving at 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
Swingin' Bears dance slated
Nov 29, 2012 12:00 amPARIS — John Thompson, former club caller and recipient of the Yankee Clipper Award along with his wife, Judy, will call the Swingin' Bears Square Dance Club December Annual Teddy Bear Dance at the Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street in South Paris on Saturday, December 8, from 7 to 10 p.m.
The cuer for the round dancing will be Carol Stewart.
Stuffed toys will be gratefully accepted to be distributed by Right Start for Kids, a program of Community Concepts in the Oxford Hills Area. Nondancers are welcome to come and watch at no charge.

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, at the Bethel Inn. The menu is roast pork and the price of the dinner is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. Crescent Park Chorus under the direction of Linda Stowell will be the program. Reservations must be made by December 1, by calling Caroline Gould at 824-3226 or Arlene Lowell at 824-2877.

Historical Society finishes for year
Nov 21, 2012 7:45 amNORTH WATERFORD — On Thursday evening, November 8, the Waterford Historical Society held its last program of this year at the North Waterford Church with a potluck dinner and a program including an hour of music.
Marjorie Kimball, a retired SAD 17 teacher, spent months creating what turned out to be an uplifting time for all.
H.O.P.E. moves to new location

Fletcher’s Candy Store 'opens' Saturday
Nov 21, 2012 7:45 amNORWAY — The Norway Historical Society is recreating the spirit of Fletcher’s Candy Store Saturday November 24 – the day of the annual Christmas parade. Fletcher’s Candy Store, known as the “Sweetest Spot in Norway,” began November 7, 1903 by John H. Fletcher.
Fletcher’s was located on Main Street in Norway and was famous for its handmade candy – especially candy canes and ribbon candy at Christmas time - as well as a variety of penny candy.

WEST PARIS — The October meeting of the West Paris Historical Society started out at Frank and Mary Perham's and Frank gave the group a showing of his mineral display and it was very informative. The Society thanks Frank for his tour and time.
The hunters' breakfast was another great day and there were a lot of laughs and great food. Milt Inman won the black powder rifle.
