  • Fire Auxiliary to hold supper

    SOUTH PARIS -  A public supper, sponsored by the Paris Fire Department Auxiliary, will be held Saturday, December 4 at 5 p.m. at the Paris fire station. The menu will include roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies, tossed salad, rolls and assorted homemade desserts. Macaroni and cheese will be available for the kids.  Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for ages four to 12 and free for ages three and under. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

  • Oxford Historical Society meets

    OXFORD - The Oxford Historical Society Meeting will meet on Friday, December 3,  at 7 p.m. at the Kay House Museum located on Pleasant Street in Oxford. Following a business meeting, the group will be hosting a Cookie Walk with all proceeds going to the local Santa Visits Oxford. Everyone is asked to bring an unwrapped toy to be given to the local Santa Visits Oxford and one dozen or more cookies for the cookie walk.

  • Hebron Historical changes meeting

    HEBRON - Hebron Historical Society has moved its meeting originally scheduled on November 23 to Tuesday, November 30. The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at the Hebron Town Office and will feature Director Charles Tobie relating his research on the oldest roads in Hebron. The public is invited.

  • Socrates Café to meet at Waterford Library

    WATERFORD - A Socrates Café gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, December 6, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome. The topic for the December meeting is "What's happened to the role of compromise in politics?" Jim Kearney will be the moderator.

  • Families in Crisis Task Force to hold auction

    OXFORD — A Chinese auction will be held Saturday, November 27, at the Advent Christian Church on Route 26 in Oxford (by Walmart). Doors open at 10 a.m. and the drawing will be at 1 p.m. and you do not have to be there to win.

    There will be over 100 items raffled, a $1 table, a 50/50 and also a lunch will be available with lots of good food.

    All funds will go to the Families in Crisis Task Force to help with the holiday program in Oxford County; for more information, call 357-7072.

    It is asked that you bring a gift for the kids' Christmas program or pay $1 admission.

  • Masons to hold bean supper

    NORWAY — On Saturday, November 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. the Masons will hold a public supper at the Masonic Hall on Temple Street (from Main Street, go in Deering Street and turn left) in Norway. The supper will feature three or four kinds of beans, hot dogs, cole slaw and homemade pies. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. There may be a hidden treat for those who like something special.

  • Anderson Staples to host holiday tree lighting

    OXFORD — Anderson Staples 112 Legion and Auxiliary of Oxford will be offering to any individual the chance to honor family members, friends, veterans or special individuals (deceased or living) at a tree lighting to be held at the Post Home on King Street in Oxford.

  • Bridge group to meet November 22

    WATERFORD - The next meeting of the informal bridge group sponsored by the Waterford Library is on Monday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. No partner is necessary. Players with a basic knowledge of bridge are welcome. The goal is to have fun and learn from each other.

    The group will not meet in December; meetings will resume in January on the fourth Monday of each month. For more information, call 583-2729.

  • Concerned Women to meet

    MECHANIC FALLS - The Concerned Women for America local chapter will meet at the home of Jan Pinkham, 11 Bucknam St., Apt. 19, Mechanic Falls, on Friday, November 19, at 3 p.m. If you are concerned about the state of the nation, please come and meet with the group.   • Girl Scouts info and registration meeting set

    SOUTH PARIS - Girl Scouts of Maine will be hosting a parent information and registration meeting on Thursday, November 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Paris Elementary School in South Paris.

    Girls and adults are invited to attend the meetings to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.
