Legion membership awards given
Dec 02, 2010 12:00 amFORT FAIRFIELD — Ken Bouchard of Livermore Falls, 2nd vice commander, American Legion, Department of Maine, visited with Legion members at the 16th District meeting in Aroostock County, held in Fort Fairfield. Bouchard read the 100 membership citations and Commander Ayotte presented the awards to the commanders. Support our troops. Swingin' Bears to hold Teddy Bear dance
Dec 02, 2010 12:00 amSOUTH PARIS - The Swingin Bears Square Dance Club will have its annual Teddy Bear Dance on Saturday, December 11 at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St. in South Paris. This event supports RightStart for Kids, a program of Community Concepts in the Oxford Hills area. Donations of stuffed toys will be very much appreciated.
Ray Hilton will be the caller for the evening and Carol Stewart will cue the rounds. Refreshments will be served at intermission. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.
McFalls Historical Society holds supper
Nov 24, 2010 12:00 amMECHANIC FALLS - The Slowly Becoming Famous Roast Beef Community Supper, sponsored by the Mechanic Falls Historical Society, will be held on Saturday, December 4 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The hours of the meal have been extended to meet the needs of all who wish to partake in this fetching feast.
Charles Tobie to describe Hebron's oldest roads
Nov 24, 2010 12:00 amHEBRON - The Hebron Historical Society will hear Director Charles Tobie describe his research and writing on the history of Hebron’s oldest roads at its next meeting. He will describe in detail the first road of consequence in town, a county road from New Gloucester to Paris established as a public way by the Court of General Sessions for Cumberland County in 1793. His research found a section from Minot Corner into Hebron identical to roads in use today. With maps he will point out families that lived along the route through Minot when the road was established.
Harrison Historical Society to meet

Upcoming holiday market to benefit Historical Society project
Nov 24, 2010 12:00 amPOLAND - On Saturday, December 11 the Poland Historical Society will host a Holiday Market/Bakery Sale to benefit the raising of a “Memorabilia Barn.” Over the years the Poland Historical Society has received many generous donations. The purpose of the barn will be to display items donated by area residents that are too large to be displayed in the restored District #22 schoolhouse. Currently there is not enough space and a barn will ensure that items are properly stored and preserved for the future.
Holiday pot luck slated
