  • Masons plan supper

    NORWAY — The traditional monthly supper at the Masonic Hall, 9 Temple Street in Norway is Saturday, December 18 from 5-6:30 p.m.

    Four kinds of beans, hot dogs, cole slaw, fresh bread and homemade pies are available for $7, adults and $4 children 12 and under.

  • Bethel Historical fund campaign is crucial

    BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society's 2010 Annual Fund Campaign, which continues through December 31, is one of the most important ways Society members and friends can help continue the good work begun nearly half a century ago and now under way with renewed energy. As plans take shape for the Society's 45th anniversary in 2011, there are many success stories that longtime supporters of the organization can look back on with pride, including the continued preservation of the 1813 Dr.

  • Immonen to speak at the Finnish-American Society

    WEST PARIS — Cynthia Immonen will present a program called “How Christmas came to New England,” which explains the European origin of many of our traditional celebrations, at the monthly meeting of the Finnish-American Society of Maine, on Sunday, December 19, at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Finnish-American Heritage Center on 8 Maple Street in West Paris. A brief business meeting will be held prior to the program and a coffee social will close out the day. The public is welcome to attend.

  • W. Paris Historical Society to hold Christmas meeting

    WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society will hold its Christmas meeting on Monday, December 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Norman and Elaine Emery. Bring a gift for the same sex for $5 or under and your Christmas for Kids gift. This meeting is dessert only so eat dinner early and come laugh and sing and play.

  • Diabetes Support group to meeet

    NORWAY - There will be a meeting of the Diabetes Support Group at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, December, 15, from 6-7 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building.

  • Waterford World's Fair holds meeting

    WATERFORD - The Waterford World's Fair would like to invite all past and present members, and anyone interested in becoming a new member, to the annual Christmas potluck/meeting. It will be held on Sunday, December 12 at noon at the Waterford town hall. Please bring any suggestions or new ideas with you for input. Also feel free to bring a favorite dish or dessert to share. The regular Fair meeting will begin at 2 p.m. and all are welcome to attend this meeting.

  • Heywood Club plans Christmas party

    NORWAY/SOUTH PARIS - The Annual Heywood Club Christmas party will be held on Monday, December 13 starting with the social hour any time after 5 p.m. at Rowena Palmer's house, 286 Round the Pond Road in Norway. They will then meet at 6:30 p.m. at the 1st Congregational Church in South Paris for dinner. Cost is $7 per person. In lieu of a gift exchange, they will take up a collection and make a donation to a needy family or cause. Please RSVP by December 9th to Patty Rice at 743-2285.

  • AARP holiday meeting scheduled

    SOUTH PARIS - The holiday meeting of AARP Oxford Hills Chapter 5297 will be held on Monday, December 13 at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street in South Paris. Lunch will be served at 12 noon and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on Friday, December 10. The menu will be a chicken pie dinner; the cost is $6.50.

    Christmas for kids donations are still being accepted. Please bring your total volunteer hours for this year.

  • Bridge club meets

    OXFORD - Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Friday in the Rec. hall on King St. in Oxford at 9:15 a.m. A four-table Howell movement was enjoyed.

    Finishing first in flight A were Mary Trafton (Waterville) and Linda Leotsakos (Chelsea); second were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Les Buzzell (Auburn). Third were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway), who were also first in flight B.

    Second in flight B were Carol Curran (Bridgton) and Barbara Vanderzanden (Waterford); third were Milton McKeen (Bridgton) and Jim Krainin (Windham).
