  • Pizza night to benefit Rotary scholarship

    NEWRY — On Wednesday, February 2, from 6-9 p.m., Rotary Club of Bethel will inaugurate All-You-Can-Eat Pizza night at the Matterhorn, Sunday River Road in Newry. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased in advance from any club member or at the door. Proceeds benefit Rotary's Scholarship fund to be given in honor of Rocky Freda.

  • Socrates Café to meet at the Waterford library

    WATERFORD — A Socrates Café gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, January 3, 2011from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

    The topic for the January meeting is "Does Beauty Matter?" Ed Somers will be the moderator.

  • Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge club meets

    OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge club met Friday in the Rec. bldg on King St. in Oxford at 9:15 a.m. A six-table Howell movement was enjoyed.

    Finishing first in flight A were Lucille Theriault (Lewiston) and Fred Letourneau (Winslow); second were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Pete Cummings (S. Paris). Third were Linda Leotsakos (Chelsea) and Mary Trafton (Sidney), who also were first in flight B. Fourth in flight A were Hazel Glazier (Norway) and Les Buzzell (Auburn).

  • Bethel Senior Citizens to meet

    BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Funky Red Barn for a meeting and luncheon. Reservations must be made before noon on January 10, by calling Caroline Gould at 824-3226 or Arlene Lowell at 824-2877. The price of the dinner is $10 and the menu is stuffed haddock. Membership dues are due at this meeting. New members are always welcome.
