  • Watch meeting cancelled

    LOVELL — The January meeting of the Lovell Neighborhood Watch has been cancelled. Members of the group hope to see everyone on February 16.

  • CWA meeting on Jan. 21

    MECHANIC FALLS — There will be a meeting of the Concerned Women for America on Friday, January 21, at 3 p.m.

    The meeting will be held at the home of Jan Pinkham, 11 Bucknam St., Apt. 19 in Mechanic Falls. All who are interested in improving the moral and spiritual climate of the country are welcome to attend.

    The group will have an update on political issues and a time of prayer concerning these things.

  • Harrison Lions plan Texas Hold ‘Em tourney

    HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will be holding a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament on Saturday, January 22, at the Harrison Lions Club Den on Main Street. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., start time is 1 p.m. and the end time is 6 p.m.

    The entry fee is $55 and includes the stipend for the State license fee. Food and refreshments will be available. There is limited seating so come and have some fun.

    Proceeds will be used to provide services that the Lions Club renders to the community.

  • Bridge group meets at Waterford Library

    WATERFORD — The Waterford Library sponsors an informal bridge group that meets at the library the fourth Monday of each month. The next meeting is on Monday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m.

    No partner is necessary. Players with a basic knowledge of bridge are welcome. The goal is to have fun and learn from each other. For more information call 583-2729.

  • Outdoor sports and gun show planned

    AUGUSTA — The Ancient Ones’ outdoor sports and gun show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, at the Augusta Armory on Western Avenue.

    Cost is $5 for adults and free for kids and military with ID. There will also be a live teepee setup and tomahawk throwing.

  • Diabetes Support Group meeting

    NORWAY — There will be a meeting of the Diabetes Support Group at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 19, from 6-7 p.m. in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Building.

  • Socrates Café to meet at library

    WATERFORD — A Socrates Café gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, February 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

    The topic for the February meeting is "Responding to Change." Jim Kearney will be the moderator. For more information call 583-6957 or e-mail the library at wla@waterford.lib.me.us.

  • Masons, Eastern Star to hold supper

    NORWAY — The Norway Masons and Eastern Star members will put on their monthly supper on Saturday, January 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Masonic Hall on Temple Street in Norway (behind the post office).

    The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. The menu will be four kinds of baked beans, hot dogs, cole slaw and homemade pies. There is plenty of parking.

  • Public supper planned

    NORWAY — The Norway Fireman's Relief Association will be holding a baked ham supper on Saturday, January 15 at the Norway fire station.

    The menu will consist of baked ham, salads, vegetables, rolls, beverages and dessert. Supper will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12 and free for children under six.
