  • Waterford bridge meeting moved

    WATERFORD — The Waterford Library informal bridge group that meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. will be at a different location on Monday, February 28. The library is closed February 28 through March 6 for renovations. For the location and more information call 583-2729.

    No partner is necessary. Players with a basic knowledge of bridge are welcome. The goal is to have fun and learn from each other.

  • Socrates Café to meet

    WATERFORD — A Socrates Café gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, March 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

    The topic for the March meeting is "The role of history in forming culture." Ed Somers will be the moderator. For more information call 583-6957 or e-mail the library at wla@waterford.lib.me.us.

  • Texas Hold 'em in Mechanic Falls

    MECHANIC FALLS — American Legion Post 150 will hold a Texas Hold 'em Tournament on Friday, February 18 at 6 p.m. Buy in is $30; payout depends on players (100 player limit). Refreshments will be on sale.

  • County GOP will hold Lincoln Day dinner

    SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford County Republican Committee will hold their annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Four Seasons Function Center, located at 187 Main Street in South Paris, on Saturday, March 5. Social Hour will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by a wonderful meal. Senator Olympia Snowe will be the keynote speaker, and entertainment will be provided by the Tony Boffa Band to dance the winter blues away.

  • Concerned women to meet

    MECHANIC FALLS — There will be a meeting of the Concerned Women for America at the home of Jan Pinkham on Friday, February 18 at 3 p.m. The address is 11 Bucknam St., Mechanic Falls, Apt. 19. All who are concerned about the political and moral climate of the country are welcome to come and meet with the group for a time of practical action and prayer.

  • Lions plan Texas Hold ‘Em tournament

    HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will hold a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament on Saturday, February 19, at the Harrison Lions Club den on Main Street. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., start time is 1 and end time is 6 p.m. The entry fee is $55 which includes the State license fee. Food and refreshments will be available. There is limited seating.

    Proceeds will be used to provide services that the Lions Club renders to the community.

  • VFW plans breakfast

    HARRISON — The VFW Post 9328, located on Waterford Rd. in Harrison, will host its popular monthly breakfast on Sunday, February 13 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.

    Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, country gravy and biscuits, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, hot cocoa and OJ. Donations accepted.

  • Oxford Hills bridge club results

    OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Rec building on King St. in Oxford. A three and a half table Howell movement was enjoyed.

    Finishing first in flight A were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway), who also were first in flight B. Second in flight A were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Luke Merry (New Gloucester); third were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Pete Cummings (South Paris).

  • New members welcome at World's Fair meeting

    WATERFORD — The February meeting of the Waterford World's Fair will be held on Sunday, February 13 at the Waterford Town Office building on the Plummer Hill Road at 2 p.m.

    Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings and the Fair is always looking for more members so if you might be interested in helping in any way, please come join the fair members as they discuss upcoming events.
