Easter basket workshop set
Mar 10, 2011 12:01 amSOUTH PARIS — The Seneca Club of the Paris Public Library is sponsoring an Easter basket workshop on Saturday, April 9, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris.
The workshop is a fundraiser for the children’s programs at the library. The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $25 per weaver and includes all materials plus lunch. It will be taught by basket weaver Karen Ellis and her “basket buddies.”
There will also be door prizes. Space is limited so please call the library at 743-6994 or Karen at 743-3921.
AARP meeting set
Mar 10, 2011 12:01 amSOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, March 14 at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street in South Paris. Lunch will feature a chicken dinner with all the fixings to be served at 12 noon. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on Friday, March 11.
The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a talk regarding the projects and work of the Community Kitchen at the Progress Center on Cottage St. in Norway, presented by Priscilla Burnett.
Denmark book discussion group starts
Mar 10, 2011 12:01 amDENMARK — Starting on Tuesday, March 15, at 6 p.m., Nurture Through Nature will host a discussion group on Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now." The group will meet for 10 consecutive Tuesdays with the last meeting on May 17.
Bethel seniors to meet
Mar 03, 2011 12:01 amBETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, at the Methodist Church in Bethel. This will be a potluck dinner and members are asked to bring a salad, hot dish or dessert to share. Members also need to bring items for the auction.

Richardson Tent 19 holds meeting
Mar 03, 2011 12:01 amNORWAY — Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, held their first meeting of the new year on February 23, at the home of Marilyn Jones in Norway.
There were seven members in attendance, and the meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Marilyn Jones.
Lynn Cummings-Pike was secretary pro tem and Deanna Merchant was patriotic instructor pro tem in the absence of Dorothy Morency and Wanda Ryerson.
Weather permitting, the next meeting will be in Stoneham on March 23.
Stone-Smart holds meeting
Mar 03, 2011 12:01 amNORWAY — Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 held a meeting on February 9, with Joyce Clifford presiding.
Ellen Snow reported that she has donated to Oxford County Community Services several pairs of shoes and boots.
Rose Moulton, Kathy Neary and Joyce Clifford will serve on the nominating committee to select new officers for next year.
The following donations were voted: Opportunity Farm, Special Olympics, Maine Blind Camp and a gift for the Post’s birthday next month.
Beekeeping club forming
Mar 03, 2011 12:01 amNORWAY — A honey bee club is forming in the Oxford Hills. The first meeting is March 12, 1:30 p.m., at the Fair Share on Main Street in Norway in the public gathering room.
Anyone interested in bees is welcome. How to get started with honey bees is the topic and John Seilonen will share his expertise in beekeeping. For more information contact Seilonen at 743-5009.
Church women to meet

West Paris library group meets

Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge results
Feb 24, 2011 12:01 amOXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Rec. building on King St. in Oxford. A four and a half table Howell movement was enjoyed.
Finishing first in flight A were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway), who also were first in flight B.
Second in flight A were Pete Cummings (South Paris) and Dick Allen (New Gloucester), third were Marta Clements (Woodstock) and Les Buzzell (Auburn) and fourth were Carol Curran (Bridgton) and Barbara Vanderzanden (Waterford), who also were second in flight B.
