    Greenwood Historical

    GREENWOOD — Greenwood Historical Society will meet on Wednesday June 1, with spring cleaning at 4 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. Members are asked to bring cleaning supplies.

    Weary Club

    NORWAY — The Weary Club will hold a Saturday morning coffee hour on May 21, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the club on 385 Main Street in Norway, next to Key Bank. All visitors are welcome.

    HEBRON — Eric Wight from Bethel recently spoke to the Hebron Historical society about his archaeological discoveries in Maine relating to Paleoindian life dating back to the retreat of the glaciers from the last Ice Age.

  • Senator Mason speaks on Charter schools

    PARIS — Senator Garrett Mason (R-Androscoggin) updated local Republicans recently on the progress of charter school legislation in Augusta. He attended the April Oxford County Republican Committee as the keynote speaker. Those in attendance heard a strong argument made in support of improving education in Maine by allowing Charter schools.

  • Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge results

    OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Rec. building on King St. in Oxford. A five-table Howell movement was enjoyed.

    Finishing first in flight A were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Pete Cummings (South Paris) with a whopping 73% game. Second were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Luke Merry (New Gloucester). Third were Pat and Mike Quinn (Otisfield).

    AARP

    SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, May 9 at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street, South Paris. A chicken dinner will be served at 12 noon. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on Friday, May 6.

    The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., followed by world-renowned clown Rick Adams, who will entertain the group.

  • Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge results

    OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge club met Friday at 9:15 a.m. in the Rec. building on King St. in Oxford. A four and a half table Howell movement was enjoyed.

    Finishing first in flight A were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway), who also were first in flight B.

    Second in flight A were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Pete Cummings (South Paris); third were Cindy and Robert Kirchherr (South Paris), who also were second in flight B. Finishing third in flight B were Jim Krainin (Windham) and Milt McKeen (Bridgton).

  • Donations needed for sale

    WEST PARIS — West Paris Grange #298 will hold its annual Spring Sale and Flea Market on Saturday, May 28, at the West Paris Grange Hall on Church St. in West Paris village. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. Baked goods and lunch will be available. Anyone interested in renting a table, please call Pat at 674-3241.

    The Grange is seeking donations of clean, used but not abused items (no clothing, please) for sale at the Grange table. Please call Nance at 890-6711.

  • Democrats to hold meetings

    SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford County Democrats will hold an Issues and Activism Caucus Meeting on Saturday, April 30 from 3-5 p.m. at the South Paris Town Office meeting room. The event is open to all interested in electing Democrats in 2012 and is one of a series of four Issues and Activism Caucus Meetings being held throughout the county. The theme of the Oxford Hills meeting is the environmental impact of the LePage administration agenda, and the guest speaker is Senator Seth Goodall, the lead Democrat on environmental issues.
