  • World's Fair meeting, supper is scheduled

    WATERFORD — The Waterford World's Fair next meeting will be held on Sunday, April 14 at the Waterford Town Hall on Plummer Road starting at 2 p.m.

    All members are encouraged to attend and anyone who is interested in the Fair is always welcome. For more information, call Bill Winslow at 595-1601 or Dana Hemingway at 595-2430.

    On April 20, the last supper for the winter for the Waterford World's Fair will be held at the North Waterford Congregational Church on Route 35 across from Melby's Market.

    AARP

    PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, April 8 at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at 12 noon and will feature a honey glazed chicken dinner. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, April 5.

    The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Please bring any items for the homebound gift bags and something for the Food Pantry collection. The speaker will be Linda Russell from Elder Law.

  • Bethel Historical Society

    BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society is pleased to announce that it has received a $500 grant from the Maine Humanities Council in support of its 2013 Lecture Series, “Trails, Trials and Tourism: Capturing the Maine Experience.”

    Among the programs supported by this grant will be the Society’s Annual History Symposium on April 13, a gallery talk during an exhibit preview in early July, and a lecture on September 14 by David B. Field, author of "Along Maine's Appalachian Trail."

    BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at the Bethel Methodist Church. This will be a potluck dinner and members will bring a dish to share.

  • Hartford Heritage plans summer

    HARTFORD — The Hartford Heritage Society is looking forward to an active spring and summer. The Society hopes you will share it with them as a member, a volunteer or a visitor.

    There is something for everyone to participate in from the elementary school tour groups to the heritage enthusiasts. Come see the museum and join in the experiences that make Hartford a town that respects its heritage and brings its people together.

  • BHS celebrates women’s history

    BETHEL — At 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, the Bethel Historical Society will celebrate Women’s History Month with a screening of the film “Reaching Out for Liberty & Light: The Life of Frances Payne Bolton.”

    The younger sister of William Bingham 2nd, Bethel’s greatest philanthropist, Frances Payne (Bingham) Bolton is recognized today as an outstanding and influential politician, humanitarian, philanthropist, and patriot.

  • Daughters of Union Veterans

    DONATION —   The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 Hannah F. Richardson Tent #19 of Stoneham presented a check to the Western Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, to be used for their musical entertainment. Receiving the check on behalf of WMVH was Activity Director Pat Paar. Presenting the check was Senior Vice President Department of Maine and President of Tent 19, Marilyn Jones. Sylvia Grover, secretary/treasurer of Tent 19 and Dayle Burnell, senior vice president of Tent 19 and WMVH resident Al Stronach were also present.

  • Norway Legion to hold Sunday Bingo

    NORWAY — Beginning Sunday, March 17, Stone Smart Post #82 of Norway will have Bingo on Sunday as well as Monday evening. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and Bingo will start at 1 p.m.

    Come join in as they start Sunday Bingo. Corned beef and cabbage will be available as well as Shamrock Shakes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs, as well as home made pies, will also be available.

  • Historical Society sets schedule

    BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society’s 2013 calendar of events includes a variety of lectures, book-signings, exhibit openings and commemorative programs that are sure to enlighten and entertain.

    In March (date to be announced), the Society will present its annual program honoring Women’s History Month. Past programs have included slide shows, panel discussions and interesting lectures. The program will be posted on the Society’s website (www.bethelhistorical.org) soon.
