STONEHAM — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19 of Stoneham, held their monthly meeting on September 26, at the Community Room in Stoneham.
Department President Elsie Bonney and Department Junior Vice President Vicky Myers were guests. Elaine Lagueux, Cayla Heath and Sylvia Grover served as officers pro-tem in the absence of Deanna Merchant, Wanda Ryerson and Dayle Burnell. The mystery prize went to Sylvia Grover.
Lovell's plans Fall Harvest
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amLOVELL — The Lovell Historical Society will present “The Fall Harvest,” an enjoyable family program focusing on old-time fall harvesting practices this Sunday, October 14, from 1 to 4 p.m.
This event should have something of interest for all members of the family. There will be a demonstration of the operation of a cider press with apples generously donated by Pietree Orchard of Sweden. There will be a petting zoo and free pumpkin painting for children.
Girl Scout parent info night set
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amBETHEL — Girl Scouts of Maine will be hosting a parent information and registration meeting on Tuesday, October 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Crescent Park Elementary School in Bethel.
Girls and adults in the Bethel/Woodstock/Bryant Pond area are invited to attend the meeting to find out about the many different and fun ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best.
Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.
Waterford fair meeting slated
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amWATERFORD — The October meeting for Waterford World's Fair Association will be held at 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds at 36 Irving Green Road (across from Melby's Market) on Sunday, October 14, and everyone who is interested in the Fair is welcome to attend.

This will also be a work day to put away the picnic tables and all the equipment that needs to be under cover before winter arrives in Maine.
The work day will start at 10 a.m. and lunch will be provided for the workers.

Gravestone group plans program day
Sep 27, 2012 12:00 amHIRAM — The Maine Old Cemetery Association (MOCA) will hold its third 2012 program day and annual meeting on Saturday, September 29 at the Great Ossipee Museum at 20 Historical Ridge (off Schoolhouse Road, off Route 17) in Hiram. The public is invited to attend.
Featured speakers will be Jessica Felix, an educator and leader of NH cemetery restoration projects, and Wayne Holmquist. Felix, at 10 a.m. will present “Cemeteries as an Educational Tool” and Holmquist, a professional dowser, will at 9:30 a.m. talk about how dowsing can be applied to cemeteries.

Historical Society plans meeting
Sep 27, 2012 12:00 amOXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will meet at the museum for a brief meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, September 28, then carpool to the 1st Baptist Church of Paris for a program given by Rev. Mary Beth Caffey on the history of the Church.
Refreshments will be served after the program in the downstairs hall.
