  • County Democrats to meet

    NORWAY — The Oxford County Democrats will meet on Wednesday, May 15 at 5 p.m. at the Fare Share Common on Main Street in Norway. The event will begin with pizza and a social time from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Speakers will include Shenna Bellows of the American Civil Liberties Union and B. J. McCollister of Maine Citizens for Clean Elections.

    AARP meeting

    PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, May 13, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street in South Paris. Lunch will be served at noon and will include Swedish meatball and noodles. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on May 10.

  • Daughters of Union Veterans

    STONEHAM — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19 of Stoneham, held their monthly meeting on April 24, in the Community Room in Stoneham. Barbara Robinson was installed as chaplain, Loretta Andrews as guard and Cayla Heath as color bearer. The charter was draped for longtime member Frances Files Grant who passed away recently. There was also a moment of silence in her memory. On April 18, Tent 19 conducted a funeral service for her at the North Waterford Church.

    Honey Bee Club

    HARRISON — The Honey Bee Club will be hosting an all day event on Saturday, May 18, at the Harrison Historical Museum, 121 Haskell Hill Road. It will be put on by John E. Seilonen and fellow members.

    At 11 a.m. there will be a demonstration by John E. Seilonen on how to make mutable and stronger Nukes for early spring and also a demonstration on an easier way to put bee hives together.

    AREA — Did you know there is greatness in every girl, even the littlest ones!

    Can a young girl make a difference? She can if she’s a Girl Scout. As she learns new skills, she discovers that by working together even the youngest Girl Scouts can make the world better! Come learn about all the great opportunities Girl Scouts has to offer!

  • Looking for boys interested in Cub Scouts

    OXFORD — The Anderson-Staples American Legion in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 196 announce the formation of a Cub Scout Pack to be located at the Legion. Cub Scout Coordinator Tom Leeman, also a Boy Scout Troop leader, announced the first steps in forming a new Cub Scout Pack in Oxford and Otisfield.

  • Norway Grange gets new stair lift

    NEW LIFT — Norway Grange is pleased to announce that is now has a stair life to benefit folks who have a hard time climbing stairs. Greg Mills, shown here, was the first Norway Grange member to use the new lift. 

  • Stone-Smart Auxiliary news

    NORWAY — The following is a list of activities at Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary 82 for February and March.

    The Unit will hold the National President's Scholarship Essay Contest for fifth and sixth graders at Guy E. Rowe School. In April, the winner will be invited to read his/her essay and will receive $50. The Unit will also send $50 to the National President's Essay Scholarship.

    The Unit is holding a raffle to benefit Beals House at Togus as they are in need of financial help.

    BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet on Wednesday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Alliance Church, across from Telstar High School. Lunch will be $10, and reservations must be made before May 1, by calling Caroline Gould at 824-3226 or Arlene Lowell at 824-2877. The speaker will be Valerie Cole from SeniorsPlus.
