  • Middle School ski team results released

    LOCKE MILLS — The Oxford Hills Middle School Alpine Ski Team raced "under the lights" at Mt. Abram on their January 14th Giant Slalom meet. Christopher Burns placed second out of all male racers and Miranda Murphy placed fifth out of all female racers.

  • Family ice fishing derby part of Winter Fest

    HARRISON — The Friendly Village of Harrison Winter Fest features the second annual Family Ice Fishing Derby on February 25, 26 and 27. This youth ice fishing event is held in partnership with "Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs."

    Grand prize is a youth lifetime fishing license. Each child under 15 will receive a gift bag or bait and bucket with bait at the boat launch. There will be first, second and third prizes for each category of fish caught, with weight determination.

  • NYA defeats Hebron girls

    HEBRON — Hebron Academy girls' varsity basketball team hosted North Yarmouth Academy recently with a final score of Hebron 30 NYA 41.

    HEBRON — Hebron Academy boys' varsity hockey team hosted Brewster Academy recently with a final score of Hebron 6, Brewster 3.

    In the first period, Adam Devine scored for Hebron, assisted by Lou Caraglia, at 7:20.

  • Hebron boys score victory over Gould

    HEBRON — Hebron Academy boys' JV basketball team hosted Gould Academy recently with a final score of Hebron 45 Gould 26.

  • New brochure touts Maine's 14,000 miles of snowmobiling trails

    AUGUSTA — Maine's status as having the most snowmobiling trails in the East is being promoted by a new brochure from the state Office of Tourism, in collaboration with the Maine Snowmobile Association.

    The brochure touts Maine's 14,500 miles of marked and groomed trails - double the mileage of any other New England state, the variety of lodging choices for snowmobilers, and the affordability of nonresident sled registrations compared to other states in the northeast.

  • Nordic Ski Day set at Roberts Farm

    NORWAY — Saturday will be at least the 11th annual (no one can remember exactly) Nordic Ski Day for the Western Foothills Land Trust. This year the event will be held on the groomed trails at Roberts Farm Preserve, 64 Roberts Road in Norway. Skiers of all ages are welcome to enjoy 8k of freshly groomed trails or the 3.5k snowshoe trail. There is no charge but as an annual fundraiser for the Trust, donations will be welcomed and homemade refreshments will be available.

  • Basic pistol courses offered in Oxford

    OXFORD — An NRA Basic Pistol Course will be held Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lake Thompson Fish & Game in Oxford. Cost is $125 per student (includes lunch, books, the use of firearms and ammunition). Instructors are Joshua White & Alan Coffin. The shooting portion will be held indoors. This course meets the State of Maine concealed weapon permit requirements as well as the requirements for obtaining a State of Florida concealed weapon permit

    The course will also be held Sunday, March 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Pistol course planned in Scarborough

    SCARBOROUGH — An NRA Basic Pistol Course will be held on Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cabela's in Scarborough. Cost is $125 per student (includes lunch, books, the use of firearms and ammunition). The shooting portion will take place Sunday afternoon, March 13 at the heated indoor range located at Lake Thompson Fish & Game in Oxford or by appointment at your convenience. Instructors are Joshua White and Alan Coffin.

  • Hebron girls defeat Buckfield

    BUCKFIELD — Hebron Academy girls' varsity basketball team played Buckfield High School recently with a final score of Hebron 45 Buckfield 23.
