  • WMYB girls are champs

    WESTERN MAINE YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE CHAMPS — The Oxford Hills Girls fifth and sixth grade Vikings recently won the WMYBL Championship in Oakland. The Vikings defeated Mt. Valley 34-30 to advance to the championship game where they went on to beat AYS 33-29. This capped a very successful season with a 9-1 record.   • Kids hunting for cure comes

    AREA — Kids Hunting For a Cure (KHFAC) is a nonprofit organization which provides financial support to research hospitals/foundations dedicated to developing cures for cancer and childhood diseases. Monies are raised by children and adults through community-sponsored outdoor events designed for youth.

  • Strong showing for Viking wrestlers

    WALDOBORO — Oxford Hills Middle School wrestling team placed second in team scores at the Pine Tree Wrestling League state championships Saturday, March 26. Held at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, the state championship event included a total of 23 schools and 128 wrestlers. Wrestlers qualified by placing in the top four places at the regional meet on March 19. Seven wrestlers from Oxford Hills went on to state championships.

  • Fundraising planned for BRAG

    BRIDGTON — Brag Complex is a 21-acre sports complex being built in Bridgton, which consists of a softball field, baseball fields, Babe Ruth field, soccer field, tennis and basketball courts, concession stand and walking trails. As part of the fundraising efforts, paving stones and benches are being sold. If you would like more information or to purchase a stone or make a donation, please contact Lyn at 627-7380.

  • Trout sale slated

    SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District is once again offering its Annual Trout Sale.

    This year it is offering both Rainbow and Brook trout to be stocked in private ponds. A permit to stock is required from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

    Applications are available at the Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District Office at 17 Olson Road, South Paris or by contacting the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in Augusta at 287-5261.

  • Triathlon registration going strong

    NORWAY — Mark White, race director for the Norway Triathlon, confirms that registration for the 2011 Triathlon is ahead of pace with the previous three years. This year the Tri committee decided to increase the field to accommodate 165 bib numbers. To date 53 bib numbers have been registered: 47 individuals and six teams. Anyone interested in registering as a team or individual should get their registration in as soon as possible. You may register on-line, or download and mail in registration form from www.norwaytri.com, or contact the trust at 739-2124 for a hard copy.

  • Speedway to host auto, bike show

    OXFORD — It has been more than three years since Oxford Plains Speedway has been the site of a car/bike show, but that all ends on May 29 as the "Awesome Auto and BikeFest" makes its debut at the historic Oxford oval on Memorial Day weekend.

    "We're thrilled to have the opportunity to once again play host to hundreds of classic car and bike enthusiasts from across northern New England," Speedway owner Bill Ryan said. "We're working with Spencer Richie, owner and publisher of CruiseMaine and RideMaine magazines, to bring a high caliber car and bike show back to the speedway."

  • Oxford ball registration open

    OXFORD — Oxford baseball/softball /T-Ball registration for the 2011 season will be held Thursday, March 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Station House Community Center.
