Jun 23, 2011 12:00 amHARRISON — Cross the finish line in the Harrison Recreation Department 9th annual 5k Run by the Lake on Wednesday, July 6 and receive a whoopie pie.
Some may remember when this race was very popular for the whoopie pies that were given to all of the runners as they crossed the finish line. Well, they are back by popular demand ... now even more famous as the Whoopie Pie has been recently voted as the official State of Maine snack.

5K race to be run at Roberts Farm Preserve
Jun 16, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — The second of a series of chip-timed 5k grass trail runs will take place on Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m. As conditions were too wet in May to run on the grass trails, this will be the first non-snow race held on the Preserve’s trails. The trails will provide beautiful views of the lake, and a well-rounded challenge for competitors as they are meandering and hilly. Anyone wanting to enter the run should download and fill out a registration and waiver form at www.wfltmaine.org or register on-line at www.runreg.com or just show up at 5:30 p.m. and register on-site.
Hebron Academy offers soccer camp
Jun 16, 2011 12:00 amHEBRON — Hebron Academy will host the first annual Super Session Soccer Academy on the school’s campus next week, June 20 -24, for boys and girls ages eight to 14. The camp day is 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with free early drop-off at 8:30 a.m. and late pick-up at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $225 per player for the week-long program.
Fish & Game meet
Jun 16, 2011 12:00 amNEW CLUBHOUSE — The June 15 meeting of the Norway-Paris Fish and Game Associtation will be held at the new clubhouse at 744 Buckfield Road in South Paris. A pot luck supper will be served at 6:30 with the bussiness meeeting to follow. Volunteers, above, worked at the clubhouse on Sunday June 5. The club is accepting donations for the annual "Whale of a Sale" yard sale. To arrange pick-up or drop-off of donated items call Fern at 739-6070 or Glenn at 966-3161. Challenger British Soccer coming to Harrison
Jun 16, 2011 12:00 amHARRISON — Attention all youth soccer players in the Lake Region and Oxford Hills area - Challenger British Soccer returns to Harrison's RADR Sports Complex August 8-12.
Half day camp for ages six to eight runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and costs $108. Half day camp for ages nine to 14 also runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and costs $108. First Kicks camp for ages three to five runs from 4 to 5 p.m. and costs $59.

Annual golf tourney scheduled
Jun 09, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — Christ Episcopal Church in Norway announces open registration for the second annual Christ Church Golf Classic. This year’s tournament will be held at Naples Golf and Country Club on Saturday, June 25 starting at 9 a.m. “This tournament is held at one of Maine’s premier 18-hole golf courses. The course is beautiful, with more than 2000 feet of frontage on Brandy Pond; it is one of my favorite places to play,” stated Tom Guilford, committee chairperson.
Tennis clinics planned
Jun 09, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — The Norway Recreation Department will be offering Junior and Adult Tennis Clinics this summer. The Junior Tennis Clinic is for ages eight to 18 and will be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School tennis courts. There will be two sessions: one from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and the other from 4-5 p.m. on June 27, 28, 29 and 30 and July 5, 6, 7 and 11. The Adult Tennis Clinic is for ages 18 and above and will also be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School tennis courts. There will be two sessions: one from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and the other from 4-5 p.m.
