  • Harness racing at Oxford Fair

    OXFORD — Harness racing returns to the Oxford Fair.

    On Thursday, September 15, post time is 3 p.m. They change it up a bit by honoring area horses who raced in years gone by. The horses will be favorites of area horsemen who go back several years. Some of the owners include Bill Haynes, Freeman Parker, Bion Pike, Don Roy, Willis Whittemore, Steve Brown, Buddy Burke, Robinson Family, Grover Family, etc. Come on out and see who these people hold a soft spot for.

  • Vikings come to NPC-TV

    LOCAL — NPC-TV Channel 11 will be airing the Oxford Hills Vikings Football games. The games will air Mondays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 6:30 p.m.

    Troy Ripley of South Paris has stepped up and taken on the role of producer for these games. He's lined up Steve Labonte as the videographer and Emery Gammon will be doing the play by play.

  • Fall shoots planned

    SOUTH PARIS — The Norway-Paris Fall Shoots are underway at the range at 744 Buckfield Road, South Paris.

    The shoots are scheduled for September 18 and 25 and are open to the public. Both trap and running deer shoots are offered with prizes at the shoots and trophies for the overall winners in each. Both adult and youth (junior) shoots are planned. Hamburgers and hot dogs as well as homemade goodies are available for lunch. Stop buy and shoot or just come for lunch and stories.

  • Tournament is Septemeber 25

    POLAND – Fairlawn Golf & Country Club will be the venue for the Dave Richardson Memorial Tournament on Sunday, September 25.

    The tournament is being sponsored by the Maine State Golf Association and Fairlawn Golf and Country Club in memory of a beloved and respected member of both establishments.

    Prior to Richardson’s death in 2010, he had been a tournament director for the MSGA for more than two decades and was elected to the MSGA Hall of Fame in 2006.

  • Hoops league opens

    LOCAL — Maine Hoops Amateur Basketball Club would like to announce its 16th annual Fall Basketball League. Last year the league consisted of over 60 teams from all over Maine and New Hampshire with competitive divisions and championship format. Four weeks of regular season play begins October 8/9, and playoffs are the weekend of November 5/6. Most games are played on Sundays.

  • Audubon seeks brook trout anglers

    FALMOUTH — Maine Audubon is seeking new volunteers to explore remote ponds with their rods and reels before the end of this year’s fishing season on September 30. Along with partners Trout Unlimited and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW), the organization is seeking volunteer anglers willing to survey a total of 187 remote ponds for previously-undocumented populations of wild brook trout.
