  • Saint Joe’s hosts lifeguard review course

    STANDISH — Saint Joseph’s College will offer a lifeguard training review course on Friday, March 29 and Friday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Harold Alfond Recreation Center on the Standish campus.

    Both classes must be attended, and participants must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid/CPR/AED course certificate. Proof of prior training is required at the start of the class.

  • Annual trout sale opens

    PARIS — Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District announces that orders for delivery of Rainbow, Brown or Brook trout to private ponds are now being accepted.

    All trout orders must be received by the end of May and the fish will be delivered directly to the pond by Pierce Associates/Shy Beaver Hatchery of West Buxton.

    Mark Herman and Cole Morin scored six points apiece to lead River Valley in the 35-17 win. Bryce Cephlin scored five points to lead Paris, while Zach Wilson chipped in with four points.

  • Norway Triathlon registration up

    NORWAY — Mark White, race director for the Norway Triathlon, confirms that registration for the 2013 Triathlon is up and running on active.com. Anyone interested in registering as a team or individual should get their registration in as soon as possible.

    You may register online, or download and mail in registration form from www.norwaytri.com, or contact the trust at 739-2124 for a hard copy. Entry fees are the same as in 2012: $75 for individuals and $105 for a three-person relay team.

  • Pond workshop is scheduled

    PARIS — On Saturday, March 23, there will be a Farm Pond Construction and Trout Stocking Workshop held at the Oxford County Extension Office in South Paris.

    At 10 a.m. Candace Gilpatric, Natural Resource Conservation Service Agricultural Engineer, will lead the workshop on farm pond construction.

    And at 12:30 p.m., Sonny Pierce, retired from the IF&W and owner of Shy Beaver Hatchery, will follow with a workshop on stocking your private pond with trout. Both of these workshops will include plenty of time for individual questions and answers.

  • Harrison ball registrations set

    HARRISON — If you missed the first sign ups at the community room there is still time to register your son or daughter for baseball or softball. These programs are open to girls and boys ages four to 15. Registration forms can be found at the Harrison Town Office between the hours of 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    GOLD MEDAL WINNER — Sara Paladino brings home the Gold in cross country skiing at the recent Special Olympics Maine Winter Games. Sara is a member of the team sponsored by The Progress Center in Norway.

  • NP Fishing Derby winners

    NORWAY/PARIS — The Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association held the annual Ice Fishing Derby February 23 and 24. Proceeds from the derby go into the general fund and help send several area children to The University of Maine 4-H Camp at Bryant Pond.

    Winners:

    Brook Trout/Splake - adult, Leslie Peaco, one pound; junior, none

    Brown Trout - adult, Trevor Williams, 15 and a half ounces; junior, same

    Bass - adult, Caleb Hafford, four pounds 11 ounces; junior, same

    Pike - adult, Tim Larracey, nine pounds 10 ounces; junior, none
