  • Girls 5th/6th travel basketball results

    AREA — In the Western Maine Youth Basketball League, the following fifth/sixth grade girls' games were played on Sunday, December 9.

    Wilton 53, Oak Hill 12

    Top scorers for Wilton were Renee Solis with 21 points and Mariel Damon with 13 points.

    For Oak Hill, scorers included Desirae Dumais and Sadie Waterman, each with two points.

    Messalonskee 5th 40, AYS 30

    BRIDGTON — There is a lot of hockey being played, so there are some conflicts with typical public skating times. Come see some great hockey for free.

  • Ice Shack drawing part of Harrison Fishing Derby

    HARRISON — Mark your calendar for the 2013 Harrison Youth and Family Ice Fishing Derby, once again scheduled for the last weekend of school vacation week, Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24 at the Harrison Boat Launch and the Town Office.

    Tickets will go on sale the first week in January. This popular family fishing event is sponsored by the Western Maine Fish & Game Club in partnership with Harrison Recreation and IF&W Hooked on Fishing Not On Drugs.

    AREA — Western Maine Youth Basketball League results for December 16 for Girls 5/6 Travel Basketball include the following:

    Turner 38 Rangeley 9

    Top scorers for Turner include Amber Kelley with 12 points and Taylor White with 10 points. For Rangeley, scorers included Amber Morrill with six points and Amelia McMillan with two points.

  • Appalachian Trail Conservancy seeks volunteer community ambassadors

    HARPERS FERRY, WV — The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) seeks to fill 15 volunteer positions as Appalachian Trail (A.T.) Community Ambassadors. These Ambassadors will support the A.T. Community™ program and their designated communities with outreach, education, local projects, events and initiatives in 2013. Applications are being accepted through December 20.

    MAKIN' THE SHOT — Oxford Hills Christian Academy eighth grader, Gabe Fajobi (#14) makes the shot. This is Fajobi's first year playing basketball and he scored his first career points during the home game on December 1.

    CELEBRATION — The Vikings win 71-68 over Lewiston in the home opener.

  • Hebron girls defeat NYA in hockey

    HEBRON — Hebron Academy girls' varsity hockey team hosted North Yarmouth Academy recently with a final score of Hebron 5, NYA 1.

    In the first period, Hebron goals were scored by: Katie Couture, assisted by Kiana Melvin, at 11:14 and Couture, assisted by Shannon Bailey and Taylor Fowler, at 5:00.

    In the second period, Abby Kinens scored for Hebron, assisted by Katie Couture and Elysabeth Jeffries, at 14:22.
