  • 'Miracle on 34th Street' at Schoolhouse Arts Center

    SEBAGO LAKE - The Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake will present "Miracle on 34th Street" from December 3 through December 19. In “Miracle on 34th Street,” the actor playing Santa at the Macy’s Department Store Thanksgiving Day parade is discovered to be drunk by a whiskered old man. Doris Walker, the no-nonsense special events director, persuades the old man to take his place. The old man proves to be a sensation and is quickly recruited to be the store Santa at the main Macy's outlet. While he is successful, Ms.

  • Mahoosuc Community Band to hold holiday concert

    BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Community Band will have its annual holiday concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, at the West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel.

  • Legion Post 150 to hold New Year’s dance

    MECHANIC FALLS — American Legion Post 150 in Mechanic Falls will hold a New Year’s dance on December 31, from 8 to 12:30 p.m. The price is $10 per person and the band will be Dog Pile. Tickets are now on sale in the lounge at the Post on Elm Street. The public is invited.

  • Country Christmas show to be held in Windham

    WINDHAM - The Down East Country Music Association will be having a Country Christmas Show on Saturday, December 11, at Club 302, Route 302 in Windham. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and festivities begin at 12 noon. There will be food available as well as a 50/50 drawing and kiddie gifts. There will be plenty of music throughout the day and it's rumored that Santa may be popping in for a quick visit. Bring an ornament to exchange.   • Jones Dance Band to play at American Legion

    SOUTH PARIS — The Jones Dance Band will be playing at the South Paris American Legion Hall on Church Street on Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 18 from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost is $5.

    They also will be playing on New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31, from 8 to 12:30 p.m. The New Year’s dance and buffet is $15 for a single and $30 a couple. For New Year’s reservations, call Betty at 743-7965. Come and enjoy with friends.

  • SMH hosts Western Maine artist Barbara Traficonte during the month of December.

    NORWAY - A new exhibit has been installed at Stephens Memorial Hospital featuring views from the local area of Norway Lake, Bethel, Round the Pond, Flower Gardens and Monhegan Island, just in time for the holidays. These works have been created by Barbara Traficonte, a well-known and respected artist and teacher of this area. Visit her work located in the lab and patient wing of the hospital.

  • Maine musicians' CD to help end hunger

    LOCAL — An unprecedented gathering of Maine musicians have joined forces to end hunger in Maine. Included among the 26 participating artists are Dan Fogelberg, Don McLean, Noel Paul Stookey, Jonathan Edwards, Tim Sample, Paul Sullivan, Aztec Two Step, Devonsquare, Schooner Fare, Gordon Bok, David Mallett and Cindy Bullens.

  • 'A Christmas Carol' to be presented at Telstar

    BETHEL - The Telstar High School Theater Department presents the holiday classic "A Christmas Carol" Thursday, December 16, Friday, December 17 and Saturday, December 18 at 7 p.m. There will also be a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. The student cast and crew will offer audiences of all ages a special time filled with the spirit of the season.
