  • Arts in Motion presents 'The Fantasticks'

    FRYEBURG — Arts in Motion, in collaboration with Dollars for Scholars Mount Washington Valley Chapter, is proud to present America’s most loved musical, "The Fantasticks." Performances will take place Friday, February 18 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 19 at 2 p.m. at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center in Fryeburg, and Saturday, February 26 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, February 27 at 2 p.m. at Kennett High School’s Lloynd Auditorium in North Conway, NH.

  • National Theater presents 'Frankenstein'

    FRYEBURG — Danny Boyle’s ("Slumdog Millionaire," "28 Days Later") forthcoming National Theatre production of "Frankenstein,"  a new play by Nick Dear based on Mary Shelley’s gothic novel, will be broadcast twice at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center for National Theatre Live to allow cinemagoers to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating the lead roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. The broadcasts will be on Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 26,  at 1 p.m.

  • Gluck’s 'Iphigénie en Tauride' at Fryeburg

    FRYEBURG — Gluck’s "Iphigénie en Tauride" will be broadcast live at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 26, at 1 p.m., featuring three of the stars of the 2007 new production premiere: Susan Graham as Iphigénie, Plácido Domingo as Oreste and Paul Groves as Pylade. Patrick Summers conducts the revival of Gluck’s critically heralded but rarely staged opera, which the Met performed in only one season (1916-17) prior to the premiere of the current production in 2007.

    FRYEBURG — Check out the fabulous new exhibit featured at Fryeburg Academy’s Palmina S. and Stephen F. Pace Galleries of Art: Logging in Maine….Then and Now.

  • Calling all healing artists, vendors, nonprofits and performers

    NORWAY — The Norway Arts Festival is now accepting applications for the 2011 Sidewalk Art show. Rijah Newell, Director of Performance and Vendors, is announcing a new component to this historical event. This year, massage therapists, herbalists, naturopaths, and energy healers will be welcome to a space in the Arts Festival to showcase their work. “We will be providing a Healing Arts area that will provide space for therapists to network and a place for festival attendees to relax and recharge,” explains Newell.

  • Schoolhouse Arts Center auditions scheduled

    SEBAGO LAKE — Schoolhouse Arts Center will be holding auditions Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the theater, located in the old Standish High School in Sebago Lake Village, on Route 114 just past the intersection of Route 35.

  • Duke Robillard coming to Fryeburg Academy

    FRYEBURG — The Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce that Duke Robillard is coming on Friday, March 11, for one show at 7:30 p.m. The founder of Roomful of Blues and an iconic figure to guitarists around the world, Duke Robillard's encyclopedic command of American roots music has made him indispensable to musicians as diverse as '30s Kansas City jazz great Jay McShann to modern artists like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. Called “one of the greats” by BB King, Duke has won numerous Blues Music Awards as “Best Blues Guitarist."

  • Local artists in USM biennial exhibit

    LEWISTON — The Atrium Art Gallery at the University of Southern Maine's Lewiston-Auburn College presents the work of over 84 artists from Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties in the biennial exhibition "Area Artists 2011" continuing through March 19. Included are paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and works in clay, glass, fiber and mixed media. The exhibition features work in a variety of styles from representational to abstract, with landscapes, figure studies and portraits, still lifes and sculptural work.

  • Hypnotist comes to Fryeburg

    FRYEBURG — Dan Candell, Master Hypnotist and mind reader claims, “I can read your thoughts, then hypnotize you in seconds.” He is appearing at Fryeburg Academy’s Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. to hypnotize and read the minds of any volunteer brave enough to participate.
