  • Fiber arts workshops scheduled

    DENMARK — The 2011 Pleasant Mountain Fiber Arts Workshops schedule is complete and enrollment is now open. The registration form can be printed from the website, www.pleasantmtfiber.com.

    Some new instructors and classes have been added...check it all out on the website. Nationally known knitter Donna Kay is the feature artist this year.

  • Auditions for Narnia at Schoolhouse

    SEBAGO LAKE — The Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake will be holding auditions for "Narnia" on Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and March 27 from 1-4 p.m. Major and minor roles for adults and children are available as well as ensemble parts. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a Broadway-style song for their audition. Character descriptions will be available at the auditions.

    "Narnia" will be directed by Michael Hjort and music directed by Allen Thomas. Performances of Narnia will be held July 6-24 at Schoolhouse Arts Center.

  • Oxford Hills talent show set

    SOUTH PARIS — The Key Club is hosting the third annual Oxford Hills' Got Talent show on Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door.

  • Josh Andrew is featured artist

    NORWAY — Norway Savings Bank, in partnership with Western Maine Art Group, presents Josh Andrew as the feature artist of the month. Josh grew up in Norway and ever since he was a child he wanted to draw more than anything else in the world. He did not want to talk first, but asked to draw dogs and other animals. As his father showed him some ways to draw, his son quickly surpassed him in artistic skills and he went on to study from various local artists, one of them being Barbara Traficonte.

  • Donizetti’s 'Lucia di Lammermoor' at Fryeburg

    FRYEBURG — Donizetti’s "Lucia di Lammermoor" will be broadcast live at Fryeburg Academy’s Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m. Tickets may be ordered through the Box Office by calling 935-9232 or on-line at www.fryeburgacademy.org. Tickets are $26 adults, $23 seniors and $18 students.

  • Call to all Maine artists

    BELFAST — Maine artists are invited to exhibit their work at the ninth annual Festival of Art to be held in Belfast, May 12 through 15. Sponsored by Senior College and the University of Maine Hutchinson Center, this non-juried exhibit is open to amateur and professional visual artists, age 50 and older. Last year’s Festival included 160 works of art and attracted over 1,200 visitors.     The entry deadline is March 31, 2011.

  • Harris performs at Schoolhouse

    SEBAGO LAKE — Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake will present Mike Harris performing his one-man show, "My Mother, My Father and My Mother," on Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19.

    Mike Harris is a humorist, a storyteller and an entertainer who has been performing up and down the east coast of the U.S. and Canada for over a decade. He has been collecting anecdotes all his life and he has been telling his true-to-life stories to anyone who will listen. As Mike says, “I don’t tell jokes. I just tell people what happens and they laugh at me.”

  • Norway Arts Festival reveals 2011 focus figure

    NORWAY — The Norway Arts Festival is pleased to announce this year's focus figure, "Tony Montanaro" (1927-2002), internationally acclaimed mime artist, director and teacher. Montanaro, a world class performer, founded the Celebration Barn Theater in 1972, making South Paris the location for performers around the world to refine their skills in mime, storytelling, acting, physical comedy, and puppetry. The Celebration Barn Theater will be celebrating its 40th year in July making this year's focus figure a perfect match.

  • Search is on for senior Poet Laureate

    MONTEREY, CA — Entries are now being accepted for regional winners in the 19th annual National Senior Poets Laureate Poetry Competition for American poets age 50 and older. Deadline is June 30. Winning poems of state senior poets laureate will be named in July, following which they advance to final rounds of competition from which the winner of the 2011 National Senior Poet Laureate ($500) and runner up ($100) awards will be announced September 1.
