  • Contra dances return to Norway

    NORWAY — Experienced dancers, and those just learning how to contra dance, had so much fun at the Mellie Dunham Shoe and String Festival in February that four dances this year have been scheduled at the Norway Grange. Seen as great for community building, the Western Foothills Land Trust is organizing these dances in collaboration with Norway Downtown, the Norway Grange and the Heywood Club.

  • OHMPAA announces its 2011 season

    NORWAY — Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association (OHMPAA) recently announced its 2011 season.

    The first show of the season, "Run For Your Wife," directed by Kenn Sawyer, began rehearsals in January. The British farce tells the story of John Smith who is married to two different women at the same time, and the lengths to which he will go to keep them from finding out about each other. Performance dates will be March 31 to April 10.

  • Cinderella auditions set

    NAPLES — Lake Region Community Theatre announces open auditions for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s enchanting musical version of “Cinderella.” The stage version is based on the TV presentations, which starred Julie Andrews in 1957 and Leslie Ann Warren in 1965. Some of Rodger and Hammerstein’s most mesmerizing and hummable music is contained in this classic fairy tale. The play will be directed by Matthew Ryder, with musical direction by Mary Bastoni and choreography by Pam Collins Stahle.

  • King Richard's Faire auditions set

    BOSTON, MA/PROVIDENCE, RI — King Richard’s Faire, the New England Renaissance Festival, is holding its annual auditions for the 2011 season. The Faire is looking for musicians (drummers, keyboardists, etc.), singers, dancers, acrobats, actors/actresses, jugglers, stilt walkers, specialty acts, musical comedy performers, street performers, technical staff (stage managers, sound techs, etc.), costumers, entertainment staff (musical director, etc.), office staff (administrators, receptionists etc.) and a Queen!

  • Battle: Los Angeles (Columbia Pictures)

    Historicaly, there have been well-done war movies, and there have been well-done alien invasion movies, but there haven't been any well-done war alien-invasion movies. 

    Director Jonathan Liebesman attempts to change all that by bringing his horror-movie sensibility to the sci-fi action film "Battle: Los Angeles." The new blockbuster combines the intense action of war movies like Black Hawk Down and Green Zone with the fun sci-fi thrills of Independence Day and War of the Worlds.

    STANDISH — Schoolhouse Arts Center’s Spring Arts Classes start March 22.

  • Pet auditions to be held

    SOUTH PARIS — Responsible Pet Care Animal Shelter’s benefit show rehearsals are underway with several very fine choral groups and special guest performers preparing for the performance on April 14.

  • Harrington to sign books

    NORWAY — Augusta author Dan Harrington will be signing copies of his memoir at Books N Things in Norway on Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
