  • Maine storytellers and poets wanted

    FREEPORT — The Harraseeket Inn, in conjunction with the Maine Mountain Heritage Project, is currently seeking submissions for a publication tentatively titled "Voices From Maine's Mountains." Stories, poems and essays must be limited to 1,700 words and can involve outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, skiing, hiking, living or vacationing in or near the mountains of Maine. "We're looking for Mainers, young and old, who have a story to tell about the mountains they love," says Penny Gray, co-owner of the Harraseeket Inn and published author of nine books.

  • Calling all artists for Moore Park show

    SOUTH PARIS — The Moore Park Art Show in South Paris is seeking exhibitors for a celebration and sale of original arts, Saturday, August 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain date August 14). The day will feature 60 artists and artisans with live entertainment and fine fare. The event, presented by the Town of Paris, Parks and Recreation Department, is sponsored by the Western Maine Art Group and the Mahoosuc Arts Council.

  • Oddfellow presents Thumbs Up

    BUCKFIELD — The Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield is pleased to present the latest work from Celebration Barn's Ensemble Theater Company on Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16, at 7:30 p.m. This special evening will include guest artists Fritz Grobe and Aaron Tucker. It's strongly recommended that tickets be purchased in advance by calling the Oddfellow Theater Box Office at 336-3306.

  • Wizard of Oz in Buckfield

    OVER THE RAINBOW — From left, Dakota Warren, Bethany Kraske and Taylor Shepherd-Smith in their Emerald City costumes are members of of the chorus in "Wizard of Oz." Nezinscot Valley Performing Arts presents the show featuring more than 60 students from Hartford-Sumner Elementary School and Buckfield Jr/Sr High School. Performances are at Buckfield High School April 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and April 3 and 10 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students/seniors and $7 for adults and can be purchased at the Buckfield High School Main Office and Tilton's Market in Buckfield.

  • Lecture series presents NYT journalists

    FRYEBURG — Join in for an exciting evening when New York Times journalist (and FA Alumni) David Rohde and his wife Kristen Mulvihill share their new book, "A Rope and a Prayer." They will be here during the day to speak to Fryeburg Academy students and have graciously agreed to stay to speak to the public in the evening. Please come out to welcome them and hear the details of David's kidnapping by the Taliban and Kristen's trials to help bring him home.

  • Magpie show opens in Norway

    NORWAY — The artists of the Commons Art Collective will be presenting a new show entitled "Magpie" at the Commons Art Gallery, 447 Main Street in Norway. The "Magpie" show is art made from unused and found items.

    An opening reception will be held Saturday, April 2 from 6-8 p.m.; the show will be up until April 26th. All are welcome.

  • Photography at Norway Library

    NORWAY — Beginning Thursday, March 31 Norway Library will feature an exhibit of photography by former Oxford resident, Emily Delamater. The exhibit is in conjunction with a talk given by Scott Vlaun entitled "Beyond the Snapshot: Using Photography to Tell a Story," also on Thursday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and the talk are part of the library's current adult programming series called "Memoir: Lives & Stories."

  • OHMPAA schedules auditions

    NORWAY — The Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association announces auditions for "Lend Me a Tenor" by Ken Ludwig.

  • WMAG exhibit celebrates family

    NORWAY — Western Maine Art Group is ready to start with the Exhibit and Events schedule for the coming year. The first exhibit is coming up April 11 through May 15 - Celebrating Family: Talent Within the Family. They are looking for artwork produced within the family - mothers and daughters, mothers and sons, fathers and daughters.

  • Lunch with Duncan Slade Saturday

    NORWAY — Duncan Slade, local artist and musician, will be entertaining lunch customers at Café Nomad on Saturday, April 2, from 1-2 p.m. Duncan has his studio, Studio 227, next door to the café. He can be seen daily stopping in for coffee and a muffin. During lunch, he will be playing tunes on his keyboard and I am sure can be coaxed into sharing a few of his many wonderful stories.
