  • Paris Public Library displays young artists’

    YOUNG ARTISTS' WORK — Young artist Carter LaBossiere is a third grader who loves the medium of paint. His special interests are painting large objects and painting with bright colors, which are likewise reflected in his colorful pictures. Garrett's and Carter's unique displays are available for viewing at the Paris Public Library upstairs in the main room as well as down stairs in the Juvenile Fiction Room until the end of May. Please contact Billie Lou Damon at the Paris Public Library at 743-6994 on Monday or Tuesday if your child would like his or her art displayed in July.

  • Thirteen for the Thirteenth

    NORWAY — An unusual, fun and informative choral concert will take place in May on Friday the 13th, at 7 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church on Paris Street in Norway, across from Goodwin’s Insurance. Admission is free, though it is hoped you will feel inclined to make a donation of between $4 and $400. (Director Dan Allen says, "If you are taking this too seriously, I am concerned!")

  • REACH and monologues of women’s lives

    BETHEL — As performance night nears, the cast members of the 2011 production of "The Vagina Monologues" have been rehearsing their monologues; these stories are the result of over 200 interviews of women around the world by award winning VDay founder Eve Ensler. Each year, VDay is celebrated and acknowledged through these stories, which are performed by local women. The purpose of the production is to raise awareness about violence to women and girls. Performed with humor and grace, the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength.

  • Rawding exhibit at Norway Savings

    NORWAY — Ellen Rawding is exhibiting artwork the month of May in conjunction with Norway Bank and Western Maine Art Group at 346 Main Street. Ellen Rawding has always loved art and music; she holds a B.A. in Music from Gordon College in Wenham, MA. She has published two music books, one a "String Quartet" and the other a series of works called “Songs for Piano.” In the last few years she has found herself more time to work in painting and photography.

  • Act V at 49 Franklin

    RUMFORD — "49 Franklin" in Rumford presents "Act V" on Saturday, May 7. The event is a "Sock Hop" with music by DJ Scot from 7 to 8 p.m. and by Act V from 8 to 10 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person, and are available at Bartash's & All That Jazz on Congress St., Rumford, and on-line at http://www.49franklin.com.   • Artist offers workshops

    POLAND — World-renowned Napa Valley artist Don Hatfield will be teaching a series of indoor workshops in Poland this July. This is an exclusive opportunity, as he doesn’t offer workshops anywhere else. Artists from all over the country and Canada have already signed up and will be traveling to Maine to benefit from his amazing masterful lessons.

  • Roux and McAllister exhibit opens

    NORWAY — You are invited to an art opening featuring original oil paintings by artist Susan Roux and photography by Michael McAllister. The opening will take place at A Center for Healing Arts Therapy, located at 180 Main Street in Norway on Saturday, May 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Come meet the artists and meander through the new facility, viewing art in a unique exhibition venue. Similar to the look of art hung in a home, Roux shares 24 oil paintings and McAllister, 15 photographs. All pieces are for sale.

  • Art classes offered

    NORWAY — Western Maine Art Group, 480 Main Street in Norway, will has a new art class available in Portraits taught by a very accomplished portrait artist Gail Rein. She will be offering the class Monday nights 5:30-8:30 p.m. and Tuesday afternoons 12:30-3:30 p.m. starting May 2 and May 3. No prior experience is necessary; drawing and painting will be included in the instruction. A live model will be used for the portraiture class. The class will run for six weeks.   • Spring classes set at Artful Hands

    NORWAY — May offers a bouquet of yarns, wools and classes  to sample at Artful Hands Fiber Studio.

    Along with new class offerings, there are new yarns and an ever-expanding line of wools to fit rug hookers' needs – wool off the bolt, in fat quarters and in stash builder bundles.
