DISTRICT ART SHOW — Jerry True hangs art for the SAD 17 District Art Show and Opening Reception for parents and students on May 27 from 5-7 p.m. The show encompasses the surrounding towns of Harrison, Hebron, Paris, Oxford, Otisfield, Norway, Waterford and West Paris. Western Maine Art Group, the teachers, students and volunteers have worked together to hang the current show at the Lajos Matoltcsy Art Center, 480 Main Street in Norway. It will be on exhibit May 20 to 29. Gallery hours are Wednesday 9 a.m.-12 noon, Thursday 2-4 p.m., Friday 1-5 p.m. and Saturday 1-5 p.m.
Maine artists sought for Arts Festival
May 26, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — Visual artists are being sought for the 44th Annual Norway Arts Festival, to be held Saturday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (rain date July 10).
The Western Maine Art Group (WMAG) and Norway Downtown sponsor the event which features a visual arts show with judged and purchase awards and a variety of musical, theatrical and dance performances. Public officials have again approved the road to be closed to enable a pedestrian mall from 258 to 450 Main Street.
WMAG student show opens
May 26, 2011 12:00 amNORWAY — Attention all student members of Western Maine Art Group studying oil, watercolor, pastel, paper cutting, mixed media, Wednesday morning group and encaustic: join the Art Show and Sale June 2-19. This will be a student show for all members who are taking classes or have taken classes with teachers of the Western Maine Art Group. The show will begin on June 2 and hang until June 19. The reception will be on Friday, June 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Community contradance
May 24, 2011 4:00 pmSUMNER — The Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters will host a free Community Contradance on Friday, June 3 in the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School gymnasium in Sumner from 6-9 p.m.
The local folk trio, Ti' Acadie will provide the music and calling for the dance and drinks and refreshments will be available for purchase. Donations will be accepted at the door.
Sally Jones in Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington
May 19, 2011 12:00 amMEXICO — A performance of “Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington,” played by Sally Jones, will be presented on May 21, at the Middle School on Harlow Hill in Mexico, at 7:30 p.m. Sally Jones has been traveling Maine for sold out performances in Johnson Hall in Gardiner, Celebration Barn in South Paris, Out of the Box Theatre in Lewiston, the Opera House in Stonington, and for the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame at UMA’s Jewett Hall in Augusta.

Norway Open Mic night

This 22nd annual event will also feature the Annual ARTirondack Chair Auction and live entertainment including the Punch and Judy Show, the Mollyockett Chorus, harpist Conni St. Pierre and the Swift River Jazz Ensemble.
