  • Concert rescheduled

    RESCHEDULED — The rescheduled concert For the Love of a Song, II, is Friday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Norway Memorial Library. From left, seated, Kristen Short and Fawn Palmer.   • Poland Players present 'Mattress'

    POLAND — The Poland Players will present the timeless musical comedy "Once Upon a Mattress" this March. The show is a rollicking and raucous journey through medieval time where knights are daring and ladies demure and everyone wants to live happily ever after.

    But in this clever adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson's of the princess and the pea, happily ever after may not happen until Prince Dauntless can find a wife - one that is acceptable to his mother. The problem is that no one in the kingdom may get married until the prince does.

  • McLaughlin lecture series continues

    SOUTH PARIS — Mark Brandhorst from Halls Pond Gardens in South Paris will talk about using hardy succulents and other drought tolerant plants in rock gardens on Wednesday, March 13 at the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead.

    In taking advantage of rock outcroppings and stonewalls, the possibilities are endless with the many colors and forms that are available. Brandhorst will show slides from his gardens and nursery where he sells sempervivum (hens and chicks), sedums and other low rock hugging plants.

  • Simon comedy opens March 14

    NORWAY — In one sketch, a minor government clerk sneezes on the back of the head of his boss, and consequently drives himself crazy obsessing about it. In another, a local priest goes to the village doctor with an abscessed tooth and, finding the doctor out of town, ends up being treated by the doctor's inept assistant. In still another, a street dweller offers to "drown" himself for show, fully acknowledging the fact that he can't swim.

    KENNEDY EXHIBIT — Kathryn Kennedy stands with one of her paintings of a canna [sic] lily at the Western Maine Art Group's Main Street Gallery, where she is exhibiting three of her paintings.

  • For the Love of a Song is rescheduled

    NORWAY — “For the Love of a Song, II,” an evening of music featuring 12 talented Western Maine singers, has been rescheduled for Friday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Norway Memorial Library.

    Its original date was canceled due to the blizzard, but fans of these popular performers have been contacting them and producer Sally Jones, wanting to know if the show will go on. Beth Kane at the library said, “There is lots of interest and many people have been asking when it will be held.”

  • Vocal program at West Paris Library

    WEST PARIS — The Note-A-Belles, a newly formed vocal group from the Oxford Hills area, will be performing at the West Paris Library Friday evening, March 1, at 7 p.m. The Note-A-Belles is comprised of ladies who have sung together previously with various local singing groups.

    Members include Diane Maddix, Sally Riman, Jennifer St. Pierre, Patricia Jillson, Cynthia Wescott and accompanist, Virginia Noble. These talented ladies will be performing a variety of selections, including folk, patriotic and show tunes. This very enjoyable program is free and open to all.

  • OHMPAA announces 2013 season

    NORWAY — Oxford Hills Music and Performing Arts Association (OHMPAA) is pleased to announce its season for 2013.

    The first show of the season, "The Good Doctor," will be presented March 14 to 24. Directed by Kenn Sawyer, "The Good Doctor" is a collection of Anton Chekhov comic short stories as retold and staged by celebrated playwright Neil Simon.

    One of Simon's lesser known comedies, it ran off-Broadway over 1,000 performances, starring Marsha Mason and Christopher Plumner.

  • Early Evening Show at Buckfield High School

    BUCKFIELD — The Early Evening Show will be presented at Buckfield High School, 160 Morrill St. in Buckfield, on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and $14 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.boodogfilms.com.
