Wearable Art at Fair Share Commons Gallery

An opening reception will be held Saturday, October 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Four area artists, Lynn Hazelton, Steve Florenz, Don Best and Om Devi Reynolds, have been working with various materials to create a splash of quirky fashion. Please join in; all are invited.

Danse Macabre is scheduled
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amNORWAY — The 5th Saturday Norway Contra Dance series has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 27, at 7 p.m. at the Norway Grange.
This month, Julia Plumb will perform on fiddle with Bill Olson on guitar. Bill will also call the dance. Dancers are invited to come in their ghoulish best as fitting the season. Proceeds benefit Roberts Farm Preserve.
Concert pianist Gregg Pauley makes Franco Center debut
Oct 11, 2012 12:00 amLEWISTON — Concert pianist and educator Gregg Pauley makes his debut at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston on Friday, October 26.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature two major works by Beethoven and Mussorgsky: Sonata No. 32, the last of Beethoven’s sonatas, and “Pictures at An Exhibition,” Mussorgsky’s most famous piano composition and a showpiece for virtuoso pianists.
Benefit concert by Phil Poirier set
Oct 09, 2012 2:30 pmJAY — On Friday, October 19, Phil Poirier, a local musician, artist, active community member and former board member of the Norlands, will present a concert of original compositions as a benefit for the barn rebuilding efforts at the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore.
His music has been described as “contemporary folk, with a touch of the blues.” It features strong, thoughtful lyrics and a great, hook-driven melodic sensibility.
Art on display

Scenes depicted include sea, landscapes, animals, and a fish painted on a piece of drift wood. This display may be seen anytime the library is open and will remain on view through November. Paper Project at Frost Farm Gallery

Community show in Buckfield
Oct 04, 2012 12:00 amBUCKFIELD — Tricky Britches, a high-energy string band hailing from Portland, playing heel-stomping old-time fiddle tunes, classic bluegrass, country, and folk rock will perform at a free all-ages community show on Sunday, October 14 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Buckfield Jr./Sr. High School.
The event, sponsored by the Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters, will also feature the third annual Nezinscot Valley Chili and Chowder Cook-off, where for $5, you can taste all the chilis or chowders and cast your vote for the best. Complimentary cornbread and water is included.
House, Haley in concert
Oct 04, 2012 12:00 amWATERFORD — Pianist Phil House and vocalist Kathy Haley will present a concert at the North Waterford Congregational Church on Sunday, October 7, at 4 p.m. The church is located off Routes 35 and 37 and opposite Melby's Market.
Phil House is the organist at the First Universalist Church in Auburn and has performed concerts in many towns and cities, including Vienna, Austria, and Nashville, TN. Kathy Haley was one of the lead singers in the Good and Plenty singing group and is organist and choir director at the Court Street Baptist Church in Auburn.
La Rencontre on October 5
Oct 04, 2012 12:00 amLEWISTON — The Franco-American Heritage Center is pleased to announce its offerings for the monthly La Rencontre luncheon, scheduled for Friday, October 5. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m., is $7, and happens in the Franco Center's Heritage Hall at 46 Cedar Street in Lewiston.
The lunch will be a ham dinner. The featured entertainment will be a musical presentation by vocalist Larry Gowell. Also, in addition, the Franco Center will be screening a short film on the History of the Sisters of Charity.
