  • Church hosting benefit for Dempsey Center

    PARIS — The First Congregational Church in South Paris will host a Bean Supper on Friday, September 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

    The menu consists of all you can eat beans, hot dogs, salads, casseroles and pies. The supper is being organized by area cancer survivors and all proceeds will benefit The Patrick Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing in Lewiston.

  • Workshop scheduled

    OXFORD — A workshop titled “Becoming a People Person” will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 16, at the Oxford Advent Christian Church on Route 26. The public is invited.

    The workshop is to help people understand, develop and gain practical skills to minister to people. The material is based on John C. Maxwell’s book “Be A People Person” and will be presented by Pastor Tim Fox.

    The cost is $16, including the book, lunch and snacks. RSVP to the church office at 743-7310.

    HARRISON — United Parish of Harrison and No. Bridgton will hold church service on September 16 at 10 a.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Front St. in Harrison.

  • Church is burglarized

    NORWAY — The Oxford Hills Christian Fellowship has been teaching lately that in the last days the iniquity of men would get worse and worse. They feel that we certainly are in the last days.

    In light of the circumstances that developed over the past few days, the church was firsthand witness that the iniquity of man will abound.

  • First Universalist Church welcomes new organist

    PARIS — The First Universalist Church on Pine Street is happy to announce a new organist/choir director. Donna J. Hurd will occupy the organ bench starting with the opening service on September 9 at 10 a.m.

    Hurd did her early organ studies with Thomas Target and Robert P. Kelly; at Boston University she studied with March Chapel organist Dr. Max Miller and Trinity Church legend George Faxon. Her principal conducting teachers were Allen C. Lannom and Leonard Bernstein.

    NORWAY — The Norway Unitarian Universalist Church of Norway is very pleased to welcome Davey Sturtevant to lead the service on September 16.

    Davy Sturtevant considers himself a lapsed UU having formerly been a member of the UU Congregation of Erie, PA. He will present songs and stories of his own experiences with mental illness to bring greater awareness to this often misunderstood and closeted disease of the brain and soul.

  • Upcoming events at East Sumner Church

    SUMNER — Pastor Howard MacMullen invites the public to join the Congregational Church of East Sumner in the second annual Camp and Carve Weekend on September 7 and 8.

    The Streaked Mountain Wood Carvers will camp out in the church yard and display and work on their hand-carved items. Many of the items are for sale. On Friday evening there will be a campfire at about 6:30 p.m. as the beans are put in the ground.

  • Christian Men's Conference is coming soon

    AREA — The first annual Western Maine Christian Men’s Conference is fast approaching. This area wide multi-church sponsored event has been in the planning stages since last January. The Conference theme is “Building Strong Men in Tough Times.”

    A Kick off rally is taking place at the South Paris Baptist Church (2 Park Street) on Friday night, September 14 at 7 p.m., with Pastor Tim Fox of the Oxford Advent Christian Church as the featured speaker.

  • Second Congo honors seminarians

    SEMINARIANS — Scholarships were recently awarded to Elliot Munn and Drew McLaren at Second Congregational Church of Norway.

  • Free concert scheduled

    NORWAY — On Saturday, August 25, Chuck Lacombe will be in concert at the Norway Church of the Nazarene, located at 10 Grove Street.

    A love offering will be accepted for the food pantry. Come and enjoy the different style of Christian music that Rev. Chuck sings and help those that are in need. For more information, please call Pastor Shawn at 393-7960.
