  • Hummand to speak

    BOLSTERS MILLS — As part of the weekly Lenten discussions on Comparative Faiths, Imam Adilah Hummand will participate at the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 31 from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be a soup and bread supper at 6:15 p.m.and all are invited to join in. Imam Hummand is from the Lewiston Auburn community and will discuss the Muslim faith, history and beliefs.

    First Universalist

    NORWAY/WEST PARIS — “Considering Sacrifice: Both Sacred and Secular” will be the focus at the April 3 services at the First Universalist churches of Norway and West Paris. The service at West Paris is at 9 a.m. and the service at Norway is at 11 a.m.

  • Lenten lunches offered

    SOUTH PARIS — Lenten lunches are being held from 12 to 1 p.m., March 31, to April 14, at Deering Memorial United Methodist Church, the stone church next to the library in South Paris.

    The lunch includes soup, sandwiches, salads and a sermonette of 20 minutes by different local ministers each week. The cost is $6.

  • Rabbi speaks at Bolsters Mills

    BOLSTERS MILLS — As part of the weekly Lenten discussions on Comparative Faiths, Rabbi Hillel Katz will participate at the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be a soup and bread supper at 6:15 p.m. and anyone is invited to join in. Rabbi Katz is from the Temple Shalom Synagogue Center and will discuss the Jewish faith. How did Judaism begin? What beliefs are shared, what has evolved, what has been changed?

    Norway/West Paris

    “Spring, Eternal Hope and the Human Heart and Mind” will be the title of the services led by the Reverend Richard Beal at the 9 a.m. service at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, and the 11 a.m. service at the First Universalist Church of Norway (Unitarian Universalist).

    Heather Pierson is the music director and choir leader. Jim Burke provides the music at the West Paris church.

  • Teen Group creates interactive tour

    BETHEL — The high school and middle school teen groups of the Bethel Alliance Church are creating an eight-station guided tour to raise awareness of several issues of human suffering including lack of clean water, inadequate housing, hunger, illiteracy, child prostitution, and the abuse of women in the pornography industry. The tour will end in a “Room of Hope” showing how various relief agencies are working to alleviate and even - where possible – prevent these problems.

    SOUTH PARIS — Looking for the Kingdom of God? Let them help you find it at Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road in South Paris on Sunday March 30, the second Sunday in Lent. Adult Bible study, “Making the Old Story Our Story," is at 9 a.m. Worship Service is at 10:15 a.m. followed by coffee, refreshments and fellowship.

  • Parish meeting at N. Waterford church

    NORTH WATERFORD — Services at the North Waterford Congregational Church will be at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, with Rev. Doretta Colburn speaking. A luncheon will follow the service. All are welcome.

    The quarterly Parish meeting will follow the luncheon, open to all who wish to stay.

  • Lenten discussions begin

    HARRISON — The Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church in Bolsters Mills will be hosting a series of discussions every Thursday evening throughout Lent. The programs will concentrate on comparing various faiths and beliefs and will have an expert in each faith lead the discussion for that evening beginning with the first one on Thursday, March 17. With the current world events it is hoped that greater knowledge of each other’s faith will help create tolerance and understanding.

  • Comparative faiths: what do we believe?

    BOLSTERS MILLS — "As Christian, and specifically as Methodists, what are our beliefs?" That is the topic of the first Lenten Discussion tonight, March 17, at the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church which will be led by Rev. Walter Brown, pastor of the church. At 6:15 p.m. there will be a light supper of soup and bread followed by this week’s discussion at 7 p.m. The plan is to keep these programs to one hour each week.
