  • Bridgton Hospital accepts grant

    BRIDGTON — The Bridgton Hospital Guild has received a grant of $30,000 from the Kendal C. and Anna Ham Charitable Foundation.

    The grant check was presented to Guild President, Sandra Weygandt, by the Ham Foundation Executive Director, Robert Murphy, along with Board members Alan Ordway and Edna Fadden. The grant will be used for the renovations completed at the Guild Thrift Shop located on Main Street, Bridgton.

  • Free seller server training

    NORWAY — Healthy Oxford Hills will sponsor a Retail Beverage Service Training Program on Tuesday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Norway Town Office. This training program is approved by the State of Maine and will be presented by Frank Lyons of BC Consultants. Frank spent 23 years as a Liquor Enforcement Officer and is a certified instructor with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

  • Sandstrom, Wilson advance their training

    NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital’s (SMH) Physical Rehabilitation Department Manager, Lissa Merrill, PT, is pleased to announce that Physical Therapists Marion Sandstrom and Jodie Wilson, and Occupational Therapist Jennifer Bennett have recently advanced their professional education by attending “Manual Skills for the Upper Quarter,” a 6.0 contact hour Board Certified program held in Portland on January 19. Bennett, Wilson and Sandstrom are all Bethel residents and have worked at SMH for 14, 25 and 32 years respectively.

  • Rotary Club plans spring breakfast

    BETHEL — On Sunday, March 20, from 7:30-11 a.m., the Rotary Club of Bethel will serve its spring all-you-can-eat buffet at Ordway Dining Hall, Gould Academy on Church Street in Bethel.

    Tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for children 12 or younger. Tickets in advance are $7 and can be purchased from Club members, The Inn at Rostay, River View Resort and Mt. Mann Jewelers. Proceeds benefit the club's community projects and scholarships.

  • Business roundtable set for February 8

    SOUTH PARIS — A business roundtable discussion opportunity is being provided at the Western Maine University and Community College Center, 232 Main Street in South Paris on Tuesday, February 8 from 8 to 9 a.m. There is no charge to attend the event.   • 49 Franklin sponsors BAH

    RUMFORD — Scot and Cindy Grassette, of 49 Franklin Reception Hall in Rumford, will host a River Valley Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours" event featuring wedding-related businesses. The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 10; there is no cost to the public. There will be door prizes and raffles, cheese and cracker platters and a three-foot chocolate fountain. The event will feature entertainment by Ross Swain on piano, and sets by Abbey and Sara Gilbert on cello and violin.

  • Passing the drill

    DOCTOR TO DOCTOR – Marjorie Howe, DMD passes over the dentist drill to Deanna Davis DMD. Davis recently took over Howe’s dental practice and is accepting new patients.

    Children’s Hospital Boston CEO James Mandell, MD, David Ludwig, MD, PhD, director of New Balance Foundation Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention, Clinical Research and Care; New Balance chairman Jim Davis and New Balance Foundation managing trustee Anne Davis celebrate the New Balance Foundation’s $7m gift to establish the New Balance Foundation Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention, Clinical Research and Care at Children’s Hospital Boston.

  • KeyBank expands low-cost check-cashing services

    PORTLAND — KeyBank has expanded its KeyBank Plus service to an additional 22 branches in Maine including Norway. This service, which will now be available in areas including Houlton, Portland and Biddeford, allows anyone, including non-customers of KeyBank, to cash their government and payroll checks, including income tax refund checks, at the branches for one percent of the value of the check — much lower than the commonly charged three to 10 percent fee at check-cashing stores.
