  • CMCC offers leadership course for health care professionals

    AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer Leadership in Healthcare, a five-part series for managers and supervisors in the health care profession, on Thursdays, March 24 through April 21 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The cost of the program is $315 and includes materials.

    This course will introduce participants to the fundamental principles for effective leadership in a range of health care settings. Students will learn the essential skills to improve leadership, interpersonal and general supervisory skills.

  • Maine Forest Service calls for third round of wood-to-energy project applications

    AUGUSTA — The Maine Forest Service (MFS), under the Maine Department of Conservation, is requesting applications for shovel-ready, wood-to-energy conversion projects for funding through federal recovery-act monies.

    Under the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 Wood to Energy Grants Program, $2.7 million will be available this round as grant funding for the installation of wood-energy boilers to all Maine public entities or parties with public buildings, including schools, hospitals, state, county, cities and towns and tribal governments.

  • Woodlot management course starts

    SOUTH PARIS — A six-week course in Beginning Woodlot Management begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Sponsored by the Maine Forest Service, the course for woodlot owners will feature such topics as tree identification, wildlife management, deeds and boundaries, timber harvesting, forestry taxes and regulations and working with a consulting forester. There is a $20 dollar charge, which covers all materials.

  • Business workshops set in Bethel

    BETHEL — SCORE Business Planning Workshops are presented by Oxford Hills Chapter of SCORE, Small Business Dev. Center, AVCOG and Community Concepts. Subjects include business plan, marketing, cash flow and financing. The $50 fee includes one person and business partner.

    The first workshop will be on Wednesday, March 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; other workshops will be presented on consecutive Wednesdays for four weeks. Workshops will be held at Telstar high School. To register, call MSAD 44 Adult Education at 824-2780.

  • Maine home sales up in January

    SOUTH PORTLAND — Sales of single-family existing homes in Maine increased during January. According to the Maine Real Estate Information Service, Inc. (MREIS), realtors sold 536 homes last month, an increase of 10.74 percent when compared with January 2010. The median sales price (MSP) for those homes remained unchanged at $16,000 in that same time period. The MSP indicates that half of the homes were sold for more and half sold for less.
