  • Open house for massage school coming

    WALDOBORO — Choose a start-up or encore career that gives you fulfillment, autonomy and the ability to make money! U.S. News and World Report cites Labor Department estimates that massage therapy jobs will grow by almost 20 percent between now and 2018. The ever expanding field of massage therapy awaits trained therapists to work in a spa, with other health professionals, or in private practice.

  • NBA raffle

    WINNERS — Pat Martin, right, vice president of the Norway Business Association, presents each of this year’s winners of the annual NBA Holiday Raffle with a $100 voucher that can be used all or in part while shopping at any participating Norway businesses. The very pleased winners are from left, Penny Merrill, Judy Haas and Emily Kist. A portion of the raffle proceeds is donated to a local charity.

  • Head Start hires Plourde as director

    LEWISTON — Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care is pleased to announce the selection of Betsy Norcross Plourde as the new Executive Director. She will succeed Estelle Rubinstein, who is retiring at the end of December after serving as the Executive Director for more than 20 years.

  • Register of Deeds office completes five-year project

    OXFORD COUNTY — The Oxford County Register of Deeds East office has completed a five-year project by creating Tiff files of the estimated 60,000 images of documents that were recorded from April 1960 through June 1971 and integrating them into a digital data base. Prior to scanning each page, it was indexed to conform to current procedures which are a vital aid to researchers.

  • Chamber offers social media workshops

    BETHEL — Two workshops focusing on “Advanced Social Media: Making it Work for your Business” are being offered on Thursday, December 8,  at The Bethel Inn Resort. The morning workshop is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon workshop is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The same curriculum will be presented at both workshops. The cost is $25 – but only $15 for any business that is a member of a chamber in Oxford County. Anyone can register for the workshops by calling 824-2282, but space is limited. Prepayment is required.

    OPEN FOR CHRISTMAS — Louisa Westleigh is ready to receive customers at the new location of Secret Garden, a flower and gift shop which opened on November 26 at a new location on Route 26 and Fore Street, Oxford.
