May 16, 2013 12:00 amWASHINGTON DC — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers that the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 extended the authorization of the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (the 2008 Farm Bill) for many Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) commodity, disaster, and conservation programs through 2013. FSA administers these programs.

SMH recognized for addressing tobacco
May 16, 2013 12:00 amNORWAY — On March 27, the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network recognized 31 Maine hospitals through the annual Gold Star Standards of Excellence program, during an event at the Maine Hospital Association. This program encourages and awards Maine hospitals for meeting best practice standards around creating a tobacco-free environment and supporting tobacco-free lifestyles. The number of health care organizations meeting these standards has increased each year since the program began in 2010; nearly 80% of hospitals were recognized in 2013.

Turcotte Award to four individuals at the spring Volunteer Recognition events held in Auburn, Farmington and South Paris. The award is presented in honor of Robert Turcotte, an Auburn resident, who was treasurer of the Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Board of Directors from 1978 until his death in 1982. Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice gives this award in acknowledgement of outstanding contributions to the promotion of home health care.
