  • Guerin named to Dean's List

    SPRINGFIELD, MA — Springfield College has named Danielle Guerin of Minot to the Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2010 term. Guerin is a third-year student whose major field of study is pre-physical therapy.

    S-E-M-E-S-T-E-R — During round eight of the SAD 17 District Spelling Bee at OHMS Dustin Henderson, 7th grade, correctly spelled the word "semester" to become the district champ on Tuesday.

  • Teen program starts at Norway library

    NORWAY — February is Black History Month and Teen Services at Norway Memorial Library will offer a program on Freedom Quilts and the Underground Railroad starting on Thursday, February 10 at 2:30 p.m.

    Quilts played an important role in helping escaping slaves as they traveled North to reach Canada and freedom. Certain quilt block patterns were codes used by free blacks, ex-slaves, and black and white Abolitionists who gave shelter, food and clothes along the journey North.

  • Baril named to Dean's List

    EASTON, MA — Stonehill College recently named Minot resident Alyssa K. Baril, a member of the class of 2011, to its Dean's List for the Fall 2010 semester.

    To qualify for the Dean's List at Stonehill, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

  • Area students named to Husson University's Dean's list

    BANGOR — The following local students have been named to the Dean's List at Husson University for the Fall Semester 2010: Ariana H. Andrews-Wilson and Jesse Hladik, Buckfield; Meagan E. McDougal, Harrison; Nathaniel P. O'Brien, Hebron; Samantha J. Rivers, Norway; Diann E. Ramsey and Kimberlee A. Sylvester, Otisfield and Kelsey E. Morse, Waterford.

    To be named to the Dean's List, students must earn a 3.4 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

  • Keef named to President's List

    SPRINGFIELD, MA — Tyler E. Keef of Sweden has been named to the President's List at Western New England College for the fall semester of 2010. Keef is a Senior majoring in Electrical Engineering at the College. Students are named to the President's List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.80 or higher.

  • French classes plan fundraisers

    OXFORD HILLS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School French classes are trying to raise $9,000 for a trip to Montreal, Canada. They are planning on 27 to 30 participating French class students. The estimated cost is $505 per student.

    They are raising the funds to make the trip affordable for all students who want to go. Anyone wishing to donate can send a check or money order to Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, c/o French Club Montreal Trip, 256 Main Street, South Paris, ME 04281.

  • Otisfield Community School announces awards

    OTISFIELD — Otisfield Community School is pleased to announce awards for the first trimester of the 2010-2011 school year.
