  • Mother of the Year contest

    OXFORD HILLS — The Advertiser Democrat is on a mission to find it annual Mother of the Year among its Oxford Hills moms.

    Children in fourth grade may enter the Mother of the Year contest by writing a short essay – one page only – telling us: Why My Mother Should be Mother of the Year.

    Essays should be thoughtful and honest. They need to be in the child's words with no adult input. Essays will be published in the paper.

    F.I.S.H.

    The theme for February's F.I.S.H. was valentines. The children and parents made over 30 cards that were delivered to the Country Village Assisted Living in Casco. They also made valentine caterpillars and frosted, decorated and ate heart shaped cookies.

  • Advising sessions set at UC South Paris

    PARIS — Although the UMS spring semester is underway, college professionals recommend that people thinking about entering college in an upcoming semester prepare as early as possible.

    Career considerations, financial aid application and placement testing typically take more time and attention than people may realize. University College at South Paris encourages potential students to contact the Center to schedule a time to discuss their career and educational goals.

    Geneva

    BEAVER FALLS, PA — Katherine Cosgrove of Casco has been named to the Dean's List for the 2012-13 fall semester at Geneva College. Dean's List status is awarded to students who earn a 3.6 grade point average or better. Cosgrove is a Senior English major.

  • Kindergarten registration to begin in schools

    HEBRON — Registration and screening for next year’s kindergarten class at Hebron Station School will be held on Thursday, May 2.

    Children who will be five years old on or before October 15 are eligible to attend kindergarten. Parents are encouraged to contact the Hebron Station School office immediately to set an appointment for May 2.

    Appointments will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Be prepared to give your child’s name, birthdate, home address and phone number.

  • Boxberry students showcase artwork

    PORTLAND — Katie Toohey's and Emmett Grover's art was selected by Boxberry School's art teacher, Sam Armstrong to be on display at the  Portland Museum of Art (PMA), in collaboration with the Maine Art Education Association, which organized an exhibition of artwork created by Maine art students.
